Free Money Alert! Some Horses To Use in Pick 5 Carryovers at Finger Lakes and Fort Erie

September 1st, 2015

Tuesday has always been a good day to play the races on TwinSpires.com: 20x points promos at Fort Erie, Indiana Grand, and (for our harness players) Hoosier Park.

But the stakes get raised today (September 1), as a pair of Pick 5 carryovers at Finger Lakes ($3,684) and Fort Erie ($12,320) sweeten the deal. Toss in a $3,403 Super High 5 carryover on the last at Fort Erie, and that’s $19,407 in added money up for grabs at two playable tracks!

Finger Lakes kicks its sequence off at 2:58 p.m. EDT with race 5 while Fort Erie goes at 5:22p with race 4.

Here’s how I plan to bet each wager on TwinSpires.com:

FINGER LAKES:

The most likely winner of the sequence is #4 Easy Street in leg 2, race 6. That seems a little on the nose, but maybe it’s a sign. Easy Street is one of several speeds in the race, but his 7 Quirin Speed Points indicate he’ll have the best of it in this six-furlong dash in which “E” and “E/P” types have won 79% of the time this year at Finger Lakes.

Finger Lakes, Race 5, $.50 Pick 5 1, 5, 6, 10 with 4 with 2, 4, 6, 7 with 2, 4, 9 with 5, 11 ($48)

FORT ERIE:

Pick 3s and Pick 4s at Fort Erie only cost $.20 per combo, but the Pick 5 minimum is $1. That’s good news for people trying to make a score while explaining why one-day carryovers are typically in the $800 range.

The $1 Pick 5 on a day with decent field size requires a strong opinion. Many bettors mistake “strong opinion” with “need for a single”, and that’s not always the case. Being able to build around a 2x2 situation in two of the races can be just as powerful.

That said, we do have a single this time around, and like the Finger Lakes sequence it’s #4 in the second leg (Zebrano in race 5).

Zebrano has a pair of 80+ Brisnet.com Speed Ratings sprinting on Polytrack against better at Woodbine. I can understand being dubious of taking a short price on the turf debut off the last effort, but this trainer can ship and win, the jockey knows the local turf, and the sire fires 17% first-time turf winners.

Fort Erie, race 4, $1 Pick 5 2, 3, 4, 7 with 4 with 3, 7 with 1, 4, 5, 7 with 3, 7 ($64)

GOOD LUCK!
