Genre outduels stablemate for Molly Pitcher win

The duo hooked up in the lane after 9-5 favorite Super Majesty set the opening half-mile in :24.04 and :47.19. Genre was tracking that rival in second and moved up to take over on the turn. Eskenformoney followed and managed to get her head in front of Genre in midstretch.
Genre wouldn’t give up though, battling back on the inside to prevail in a final time of 1:43.10 for 1 1/16 miles on the sloppy, sealed main track at Monmouth Park.
Genre paid $7.60 as the 5-2 fourth choice in the five distaffer field. Eskenformoney had three lengths to spare on Birdatthewire in third while Stiffed and Super Majesty completed the order under the wire.
Genre was trying graded rivals for just the second time in this spot, having previously run a well-beaten eighth in the Davona Dale Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park last year. She returned to stakes company on June 11 at Delaware Park, finishing second in the Obeah Handicap, and filled that same spot when transferring over to Monmouth Park for the Lady’s Secret Stakes.
The bay daughter of Bernardini improved her career record to 10-4-4-0, $228,300, with this victory.
Bred in Kentucky by William E. Graves and Gainesway Thoroughbreds Ltd., Genre brought $200,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. She is out of the Grade 2-winning Ecton Park mare French Park, making her a half-sister to stakes winner Parc Monceau.
