Florent Geroux piloted Da Big Hoss to a title defense win in the Kentucky Turf Cup (G3) at Kentucky Downs on Saturday, and one race later was back in the winner’s circle aboard Mississippi Delta for the Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint Stakes.
However, the French-born reinsman was just getting started at the Franklin, Kentucky, grass track.
On Sunday, Geroux put together a five-win day that included both featured stakes contests.
Geroux kicked off his stellar day in the 2ND race, a 6 1/2-furlong allowance for fillies and mares, aboard Scatter Gun when that dark bay daughter of Scat Daddy wired the field as the even-money favorite.
Two races later in the 4TH, he piloted Kitten’s Roar to a 1 1/2-length victory as the 3-2 favorite in an allowance/optional claimer sending distaffers one mile.
Another two races later and Geroux returned to what should by now be familiar territory – the winner’s circle. Another favorite, this time 8-5 Daddy’s Boo in the 6TH race, romped by 5 1/4 lengths in a starter allowance sending fillies and mares a mile and 70 yards.
Then came Try Your Luck in the Dueling Grounds Oaks, the 8TH race on the card. The bay daughter of Lookin at Lucky wasn’t favored to win the 1 5/16-mile affair, instead sent off as the 3-1 second choice behind near 5-2 favorite Taralena under Julien Leparoux.
Try Your Luck didn’t need any luck as the sophomore miss drew off in the stretch to be 7 1/2 lengths in front of Taralena on the wire.
Instead of skipping a race before showing back up in the winner’s circle, Geroux put together back-to-back dominating performances aboard Oscar Nominated in the Dueling Grounds Derby one race later.
The duo bobbled at the start and found themselves wide while in midpack, but rallied to be 6 1/4 lengths the best as the 3-1 second choice.
