Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 4/12/2014

April 12th, 2014

by Palm Beach Jason

Superstar Saturday returns to Palm Beach, which features the 2nd round of the Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes.  Many of the young racers that race at this track will be in action for your viewing and playing pleasure. World famous track announcer Mike Jameson will be calling them home all day long for you.  Here are the top races I will be watching today at “The Beach.”

Race 4 Grade SA 545 Yards

The 2nd round of the Puppy Stakes starts in this race and is probably the most competitive of all the 7 races.  #5 Kiowa Leer Lee surprised many when he flew out of the box last time out  winning in 29.52 secs in the first round. Hasn’t won back to back since December, so I don’t see a repeat here.

#7 Submariner is sitting in a nice spot because of the empty 8 box.  Greyhound players love to call this situation “Dead box, puppy fox” which means that an open box has a huge advantage for the greyhound next door. Submariner should bolt out of the box with all that room. I’m rolling with the 7 here for the win. #3 Ninis Chipotle also won his 1st rd race and is a must add in your exotic plays.

Picks: 7 - 5 - 3 - 4

Race 6 Grade SA 545 Yards

#2 Juggernaut from B & B Racing is my pick to win this whole tournament. Really ran poorly in the 1st rd finishing 6th but should get right back on track in this one.  None of these hounds are in Grade A except for Juggernaut and are all light on the win percentage.  Juggernaut rolls in this one.

Picks: 2 - 3 - 4 - 7

Race 12 Grade SA 545 Yards

Any doubts of whether #3 Ghost Buster could come back to this distance from the 660 yard was squashed in the 1st rd of this tournament when he went 29.75 sec for the five length win.  The Steve Schlachter owner racer is in his third Stakes tourney this season. Is the class of this race and my pick to win.  Look for the #1 CRT Leyla to get back on track after a bumpy ride last race. Gets the prime rail box to fire out of here.  Is in the money 75% of the time this season for The Champions Racing Team.

Picks: 3 - 1 - 2 - 4

Race 15 Grade SA 545 Yards

My upset pick for this tournament is #2 Zonked, who was very impressive in his opening round win.  Starting to flip the lid better every race, which is a huge compliment to that tremendous close he already has.  #5 BL Booster Gold has now won consecutive races with blistering times in the 29.60’s and could threaten Zonked in this one.  #7 NB’s Smarty Boy probably leads with that opening kick but expect him to get caught at the end by the charging Zonked.

Picks: 2 - 5 - 7 - 6

Good luck players and owners and enjoy the 2nd round of the Puppy Stakes!
