Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 4/17/2014

After an exciting 3rd round of the Puppy Stakes yesterday, Palm Beach offers some quality racing for your Thursday enjoyment. Many of these greyhounds are not house hold names right off the page, which makes for some great opportunities to pick winners that have a good price on them. Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee at “The Beach.”
Race 4 Grade TC 301 Yards
Class and the inside posts are a huge advantage in the Super Sprint. #2 HS Jones from Agganis Kennel has both of those going for him here as he is the only true “C” grader in this field. Has just missed out on the win the last two races, but his luck should change in this one. #8 Hi Maddie doesn’t mind the outside and should be in the mix as well going for her 8th win this season.

Race 8 Grade D 545 Yards
Grade D races can be tough to handicap because of the vast variety of different racers you will encounter. Some are over the hill dogs that you can’t trust or up and comers that don’t have a whole lot of races under their belt to show us who they really are. One trend at Palm Beach that is evident is a mid-track dog getting the hot 8 box with the 7 diving for the rail. #8 Superior Ragae gets just that here. Won’t break real well but should fire away on the backstretch for the win. #2 NYX has finished 2nd the last two races and should be in the Quinela/Trifecta mix as well.

Race 14 Grade B 545 Yards
Lots of early speed in this one. #1 Mohican Dream and #4 TMD Try Love will set the pace but both will lose steam as they round the final curve for home. #2 Pat C Deception is grade dropping from the top Grade and already has 7 wins on her young season. Also has a little late gas to fire past the fading greyhounds at the end. Ring up the W for the Koppe, Staats & Collins Kennel.

Race 15 Grade A 545 Yards
This race jumped right out at me when I first looked at it. #8 Atascocita Padua from Suncoast Racing loves the prime 8 box, to the tune of she is undefeated out of that box in her career (6-0.) While she has just 8 wins total for the season, this setup is too sweet to ignore. She is an absolute must play on your ticket. #1 AMF Atom Bomb is getting his first crack at Grade A and has really shown an impressive close since arriving from Wheeling. This finale should belong to Padua.

Top Sleeper: Race 2 - #8 Superior Madonna
