Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 4/5/2014
by Palm Beach Jason
Superstar Saturday returns to Palm Beach for the Matinee feature. 15 fantastic races for your viewing and playing pleasure. Here are the top races I will be following for this card at “The Beach.”
Race 6 Grade A 545 Yards
The first of 4 Grade A races on the card has probably the most greyhounds with early steppin then any other today. #7 Macsaurus loves the outside of the track and sits in a prime box to win this. This greyhound completed the Grade Ladder early in the season and has come back from his recent break rollin. Two straight wins with blistering under 30 secs times. Does possess the best close to catch any early speedster here. Another racer that should make your Quinela is #3 Zonked, who has finished first or second in 4 straight.
Picks: 7 - 3 - 4 - 5
Race 12 Grade A 545 Yards
When you look at #6 Wink and Nod in this program, it’s impossible not to see she has taken 5 straight, albeit in totally different settings for many of those. Looked impressive in her Palm Beach debut on 3/30 but will have her hands full with #4 Kiowa Frank Lazy in this one. Lazy has 14 wins and a dynamic close but has struggled with popping the lid at the start. #1 PJ Smoke Em Out will lead out of the inside box but will get caught by one of these closers. I’ll take Wink and Nod for the win/place.
Picks: 6 - 4 - 5 - 1
Race 14 Grade A 545 Yards
The race of the day without question. One of my favorite racers here is #5 Relativity, who is fourth on the season wins list with 25. Has been not running sharp lately and needs this race to stay in the top class. I think he gets his mojo back and hits the ticket. The one to watch for the win is #7 Storm Control. One of the Puppy Stakes favorites faces the same demotion possibility as Relativity but is setup nicely on the outside. Slow breaker in the 6 and the 8 going wide should open a nice rush lane for owner Steve Schlachter’s racer. I think he gets the win today. The wild card is #6 Enkludid who just won his last race in Grade B by 10 lengths.
Picks: 7 - 5 - 6 - 8
Race 15 Grade TA 660 Yards
A nice little cherry on top play for the finale is in this TA race, where #3 L Wonderwoman is the only Grade A racer in this mixed race full of B and C greyhounds. A Stakes tested hound, she is going after 8 wins for B & B Racing and has the top time of the field (37.60 sec.) I think she should be able to outclass this field for the win. A newcomer to Palm Beach from Sarasota #2 Kiowa Magnetic looked impressive last time out blazing a 37.83 sec time on the 3/8ths Mile Course and should hit the ticket.
Picks: 3 - 2 - 6 - 4
Top Pick Race 14: #7 Storm Control
Top Sleeper Race 10: #7 HS Red Dress
