Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 5/20/2014

May 20th, 2014

by Palm Beach Jason

Sibling rivalry is the main story at Palm Beach going into the Tuesday action. Puppy Stakes Champ Storm Control is the class of the card in the 14th, as he takes on fellow A Grader and brother Submariner. A pair of sisters in the first race will also try and take home the W against each other to break their Maiden status.  Many other fantastic races to entertain us all afternoon long.

Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee at “The Beach.”

Race 1 Grade M 545 Yards

The first of two littermate matchups happens in the kickoff race, where #4 Rab’s Amber and #5 Rab’s Shadow square off.  The Rader Racing Maidens have been impressive in their two schooling races and both have a great chance of making the ticket here. These sisters also have their six other siblings with the Rab’s name from owner James Zawisa all currently running at Palm Beach.

I’m liking #7 Fly Derek Jeter from the Steve Gilster Kennel. Showing a sweet rush and just missed out last time out against Amber and Shadow’s other sibling Rab’s Comin In.

The Yankee namesake gets his first win of his career.

Picks: 7 - 4 - 5 - 1

Race 6 Grade B 545 Yards

#1 HKF Daphne from the Champions Racing Team is the Grade A hound dropping down who gets the prime 1 box to fire out of in this one. 13 wins on the season and is notorious for not being in this lower class very long.

#8 Gez Jacked Up will be the top threat to Daphne getting back into the Winner’s Circle.  Good lid popper, but has been a bit short when it comes to go time at the wire.  Still like it for a ticket play, but Daphne I’m firing on for the W.

Picks: 1 - 8 - 6 - 7

Race 14 Grade A 545 Yards

The race of the day without a doubt.  Sibling matchup #2 of the day sets up here with #1 Storm Control going toe to toe with his brother #4 Submariner, both owned by Steve Schlachter.

Puppy Stakes top dog Storm is one of the best breakers at Palm Beach and is right where he wants to be on the rail.  Sitting next to a very slow rusher in the 2 box and absolutely will be near the lead at the break.  Is facing his brother Submariner for only the second time here, with Storm winning by seven lengths in that race.

Submariner has been competitive in the top class before, but is just coming back into the top class from “B” Grade.  Does not have the same explosiveness of Storm but is still a 29.55 secs best time hound who could make things interesting.

Wildcard is #6 Turbo Fire Break who is on and off like a light switch, but does possess the ability to make this a race if he decides to run. Has been off form the last few races and I just like for a back of the ticket play.

Storm Control gets his 18th win of the season, and a few more bragging rights over his brother he can take home with him.

Picks: 1 - 7 - 3 - 6

Top Pick 14th Race - #1 Storm Control
