Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 5/27/2014
by Palm Beach Jason
After a terrific holiday weekend of racing, Palm Beach once again showed why it is one of the premier greyhound tracks in the country. The action comes back for the Tuesday card with more great races to watch and play all afternoon long. Many of the superstars here ran over the weekend, letting some of the up and coming racers get spotlighted today and for the rest of the week.
Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee at “The Beach.”
Race 4 Grade B 545 Yards
My favorite race of the day without a doubt. #8 Newbury Street from Rader Racing will look to get into the top class after this race in only her 8th career start. Loves mid track and already has blazed a 29.68 sec win this season. I’m going with her for the W but it won’t be easy.
#4 Superior Jamaica is a hot prospect from Hollywood, who has won 3 of 4 and is showing one dynamic rush out of the box. Has also won out of this box twice already. The B & B Racing is loving her new home at Palm Beach.
The race should come down to these two top rookies. The Boston named greyhound Newbury Street has the best box and gets the win.
Picks: 8 - 4 - 1 - 6
Race 6 Grade B 545 Yards
#7 Ninis Chipotle from owner Laura Brady jumped off the page at me in this one. The Grade A hound drops down to the lower class, where he has been dominant recently, winning the last two times in convincing fashion. Was a solid performer in last month’s Puppy Stakes and has been very competitive in the top class.
#3 Wuh Chowt (pronounced Watch Out) is the wildcard that could threaten Chipotle for the win. Has come off of a three week break bolting out of the box and just lost by a nose last time out. Should be able to hit the back of the ticket here but her fade at go time keeps me from liking her for the W.
Ninis Chipolte gets back to the top grade where he belongs.
Picks: 7 - 3 - 6 - 1
Race 14 Grade A 545 Yards
The only Grade A race on the card is probably the most competitive of the 15.
Not a ton of early speed in this one. #3 SKN Jackson from the Royal Racing Team has the best combination early steppin and close of all these greyhounds. Going for win #14 on the season, the veteran has two straight Place finishes against stronger fields then he will see here.
#4 Flying Odin is the overall fastest greyhound of this field with a 29.45 sec blazer this season, but is too off and on like a light switch to trust for a victory. I like him only for a board hit.
Look out for #8 Palm City Jade in the prime box to possibly pull an upset here if there is trouble at the turn.
Picks: 3 - 5 - 4 - 1
Top Pick Race 6- #7 Ninis Chipolte
