Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 6/5/2014
by Palm Beach Jason
Another 15 fantastic races are on the card for the Thursday racing at Palm Beach. With a huge weekend planned for all of racing, most of the top level talent will be running on Saturday here. This gives the up and coming puppies a chance to shine on the big stage today. The biggest prospect to watch is Fly Derek Jeter in the 11th.
Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee racing at “The Beach.”
Race 1 Grade M 545 Yards
Usually most “M” races don’t have two really quality greyhounds just starting their careers in the same race but we get that in the opener.
#2 Turbo Power from Agganis Kennel had an eye popping 29.72 secs win in schooling last time out. You don’t usually see times that fast already in a greyhound just starting out, which shows this could be a real star coming up the ladder here.
Turbo will see a challenge from the #8 Rab’s Amber. Her whole host of 7 brothers and sisters have all been impressive at Palm Beach the last two months. Amber is a solid play on any Quinela/Tri plays.
Turbo Power in the inside post stops the Maiden Madness for the win.
Picks: 2 - 8 - 7 - 4
Race 6 Grade C 545 Yards
The race of the day without a doubt.
With no A Grade races on the card today, the focus shifts to the top talent in the lower grade B.
#3 Ninis Chipotle from top Kennel Rader Racing immediately jumped off the page here. 29.64 secs best time and has been a consistent top class performer since December. I am a little surprised that he is still in this grade, which is the biggest reason I like him here.
“Chip” will see pressure from grade droppers #7 Mad Money and #4 Legal Guardian. Both are over 50% in the money this season but are both too light on the win percentage for me to fire on for the W.
Chipotle gets back to the top class where he belongs after this one.
Picks: 3 - 7 - 4 - 2
Race 11 Grade C 545 Yards
Not just Yankee fans, but many followers of Palm Beach are starting to take notice of #6 Fly Derek Jeter from Steve Gilster’s Kennel. Has been on fire since bursting on the scene on 5/11, as he has finished in the Quinela in all 6 of his races, including 3 official wins. Showing a dynamic pop out of the box but will see his steepest test of his career in this race.
#1 Craigie Frampton gets the prime 1 box and is a double grade drop but beware if you like him for the W. Has lost an astounding 14 straight from this setup (an amazing stat for Palm Beach as most greyhounds with good early speed love the 1)
Wildcard is #2 AMF Wildcard who has a sweet first step, but has shown a lack of hustle at go time. Could be dangerous if there is any trouble at the break.
Derek Jeter gets career win #4 here.
Picks: 6 - 7 - 1 - 8
Top Pick Race 6- #3 Ninis Chipotle
