Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 7/4/2014
by Palm Beach Jason
Happy 4th of July! Palm Beach always does a fantastic job of celebrating the holiday, with action packed races from the beginning of the card until the end. Big one today is the 10th, with the Rooney’s All-Star Award Feature Race that has different Kennels here sending one of their best racers to compete against each other. Looking forward to seeing these greyhounds compete.
Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee at “The Beach.”
Race 10 Grade SA 545 Yards
#6 CRT Leyla from the Champions Racing Team is one of the top racers at Palm Beach. 16 wins last season and can absolutely fly on all parts of the track. Last time she was in this 6 box, it was a 29.62 blazing win.
Main threat to Leyla is #1 Superior Polly from B & B Racing. Gets the prime 1 box and is looking for 3 straight. Look out also for hot shot rookie #7 Rab’s Comin In, who leads his family of 8 greyhounds all currently racing mainly at Palm Beach.
Leyla makes another case why she could be the top lady racer here and wins the Award Feature.
Picks 6-1-7-5
Race 14 Grade A 545 Yards
#8 Mad Holy Schmidt has had a great beginning to his career. 5 wins already in 13 starts and has been very competitive in the top class. Needs to run well in this one or will face demotion after racing very pedestrian the last two starts. A win out of the 8 box on 5/22 gives me a hunch that Schmidt responds here.
The veteran of 72 races #4 SKN Megastar was very successful hitting the ticket last season (65%) and he should be put on any Exotic plays you have in this race.
Holy Schmidt takes the W here and starts off the new season on the right foot.
Picks 8-4-1-5
Race 15 Grade A 660 Yards
The 660 yard distance at Palm Beach is starting to become wide open. For the past few months, most people would agree that #3 Flying The Who from the Royal Racing Team was the best middle distance runner here. Who though hasn’t put together back to back wins since May, making way for other greyhounds to take a shot at supremacy.
Up and comer #8 Boc’s Blazetone may be that new star at this distance. Has won 4 of his first 5 starts since switching distances and looks to be setup to go on the outside. This will be the first time that Who and Blazetone have faced each other.
Watch for #6 Kiowa Kay Fannie, who had 15 wins of her own this season and always is a threat.
Flying the Who gets back on track and takes the finale.
Picks 3-8-6-2
Top Pick Race 15- #3 Flying The Who
