Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 7/9/2014
by Palm Beach Jason
Excellent card on tap for the Wednesday racing at Palm Beach. 15 superb races that includes 3 top Grade A showdowns of some of the best hounds here. One of the top greyhounds in the country CRT Leyla will go for career win #18 in the 15th in a very tough field.
Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee at “The Beach.”
Race 11 Grade C 545 Yards
The grade drop that should pop here is #8 M’s Black Axle from the Royal Racing Team. Just won out of this same setup on 6/8 and has the top rush of this field.
Will see a threat from fellow veteran racer #1 Atascocita Hulda, who gets the prime inside box to fire out of. Just got caught at the wire last time out and has a great chance of being in the Quinela again here. Is a 52% board hitter all time at this track.
Black Axle rolls back into Grade B after this one.
Picks 8-1-5-4
Race 14 Grade TA 660 Yards
The hot new rookie on the 3/8ths mile is #1 Boc’s Blazetone from the Koppe, Staats & Collins team. Has won 3 of his first 5 starts and is showing that rare combo of a sweet rush and most importantly at this distance, a dynamic close. This will be the first time in his young career that he gets the best box to bolt out of and will definitely benefit him.
Another new comer that surprised many with the win last time out is #8 Enkludid. This greyhound marched right into this distance without a schooling race from the 545 and immediately hit for the win. That doesn’t happen very often here. Doesn’t rush well but has a superb close that he showed off last race. Will be right with Blazetone coming around the backstretch.
Wildcard is #6 Kiowa Kay Fannie who has 15 career wins of her own, but has really shown a fade to her game the last few months. Not a good thing when you have two monster closers in the same field.
Blazetone gets his first Grade A victory in this one.
Picks 1-6-8-7
Race 15 Grade A 545 Yards
The race of the day without a doubt.
Top notch greyhound #7 CRT Leyla from The Champions Racing Team is the one to watch here. Coming off an impressive 4th of July Feature Race win last time out, the 17 time winner will look for two in a row here but it won’t be easy.
#6 Ninis Chipotle from top Kennel Rader Racing has been impressive in the past two months. Has hit the board in 10 straight and has been a constant threat for the win in all of those. If Leyla wasn’t in this one, I would be all over “Chip” for the win here.
Wildcard is #4 JS Froot Loops, who ran well against Leyla on July 4th.
The best keep winning and that’s exactly what Leyla does here.
Picks 7-8-6-4
