Greyhound preview - SOUTHLAND 8/20/14

August 20th, 2014

By MoneyMaker Mike

Race 3 - Grade M - 583 yards - The pick here is the (2) CBJ Laura B who had been giving a good effort in her young career until last time out when she encountered much trouble. Before that she had two nice schooling efforts and follow those up with a strong second place finish and a fourth place effort in her first two official starts. I think she gets a nice break here as she has a strong rush and I'm counting on here to find running room early for her mid-track style and to take it home from there. Her strongest competition should come from the (6) Atascocita Cori who is coming off a nice schooling win and the (1) Drew My Charges who has five top four finishes in nine races and who could draw a benefit on the turn. Finishing the ticket, I'll include the (8) Poe Zest who is well posted for his wide running style and will be closing fast at the end.

Pick 2-6-1-8

Race 4 - Grade D - 583 yards - I like the (7) Kiowa Dot Dawson as the key here. He is coming off a nice five length win last time out and in his young career has four top four finishes. He has a nice rush to the turn along with a good closing move down the stretch and should battle for the win. The (1) Slatex Richmond shows a recent second place finish from the one box so I'll use him here in case he repeats that effort. The (2) PJ Diplomatic likes the inside and along with Slatex Richmond should be challenging for the early lead. I will use the late running (3) Time Square as along with his good closing ability he sometimes hits the lid so in case he does, I'll have him in the play.

Pick 7-1-2-3

Race 7 - Grade M - 583 yards - The (2) Yikiteyak gets the nod here as she is running hard as evidenced by four straight top three finishes which includes three seconds. She also likes the inside and this should give her the edge in this one. The (7) Atascocita Diya is sure to be a strong challenger as this young greyhound is coming into this race having won two schooling races in impressive fashion, one by six lengths and the other by eleven lengths. With a strong rush and a mid-track running style, she's capable of getting the win as well. Completing the play, I like the (3) Dutch Bella who has good early speed and shows a preference for running on the rail. Also on the ticket, I'll use the (1) RCK Iris as she could steal the early lead with a strong break.

Pick 2-7-3-1

Race 15 - Grade TB - 703 yards - I'm going with the (2) TB's Sky Captain to win this one at the wire. He has ten top four finishes in eleven races and has shown he can win at longer distances with two wins already over the 660 yard course. The (6) GS Danny Lee has had a good bit of trouble lately but I'm looking for him to find running room early and be in good position to make a late move in the stretch. The (5) BOC's Downburst is making his third straight start from this box and with his good early rush and mid to wide running style should be vying for the front right out of the box. The (3) Mahgrit is running hard and can't be left out of tri and superfecta plays.

Pick 2-6-5-3

Race  17 - Grade AA - 583 yards - Look no further than the (7) Flying Titanium for the one to beat. This extremely talented and future All-American greyhound is certainly one of the best runners not only at Southland but in the country as well. With twenty three wins and six second place finishes in 38 races, against top grade competitors each time out, it's hard to go against him in any race. The (1) CBJ Old Glory is worthy of a strong challenge and is capable of battling to the wire so I like him to be close at the finish. Also in the chase I look for the (8) U Too Pure Silk to make a big move early and be in good position around the turn and I'll include the (4) Mega Vast in case he gets loose early.

Pick 7-1-8-4

The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 1st race, a grade D contest over the 583 yard course and the choice is the (1) Klutch who likes the inside and who recently has gone back to running the shorter course after several races over the 660 yard course. He has three wins in his young career and two of them have come fron the one box over this course so he's worth a shot here. Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
