Greyhound Preview - SOUTHLAND 8/23/14
By MoneyMaker Mike
Race 4 - Grade A - 583 yards - The key here is the (8) SE's Charlie who is going for his fourth straight win. First time in Grade A and the competition will be the toughest he has faced yet but he's been on fire lately and is posted well for his mid track running style. Add to that his good rush to the turn and strong closing ability gives him a good chance at continuing his winning streak. I will also include on the ticket the (4) Slatex Taos who may try for the early lead here with the (1) Odd Zac who has encountered trouble lately but may find running room early with a good break. Finishing the play I'll use the (3) GS Bella as she gives 100% each time out and has 10 out of 14 top four finishes.
Pick 8-4-1-3
Race 9 - Grade AA - 583 yards - The (7) Flying Titanium is the key here as this talented greyhound is set to rebound after a fourth place finish last time out. With 23 wins in 38 races, hard to beat this one anytime. The (1) CBJ Old Glory and the (8) U Too Pure Silk will be his main challengers as both of these are proven top grade winners and are capable of upsetting the 2014 Peoples Choice Champ if he encounters any early trouble. The (4) Mega Vast has tons of early speed and for that reason I'll include her on the ticket here.
Pick 7-1-8-4
Race 14 - Grade AA - 703 yards - Going with the (7) Flying War Wager to make it five straight wins and six in her last seven races. She has 15 top four finishes in 17 contests and with both a strong early rush and late closing ability, the one to beat here. The (4) L's Flaco has five top two efforts in a row including two wins so look for these two to do battle from start to finish. I like the (1) KL's Pete and the (3) GS Sidney to be included on tri and superfecta plays as both are solid top grade runners.
Pick 7-4-1-3
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 7th race, a grade AA contest over the 660 yard course and the pick is the (8) Flying Shotgun. He likes the inside but does have a second and third place finish the last two times he's had the eight box. He has the good rush to make the front and I think he will be able to clear early trouble and be in position to get the win down the stretch. Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
