Greyhound Preview - SOUTHLAND 8/27/14
By MoneyMaker Mike
Race 4 - Grade A - 583 yard course - The pick here is the (6) Border Campaign who you may remember was featured as one of the up and coming greyhounds at Southland that we highlighted just a few weeks back. He encountered much trouble last time out and had his streak of 10 straight top three finishes snapped but I'm looking for him to get back on track here. With his strong rush and late closing ability, he's a threat each time out. The (3) CBJ Kitkat is coming back from a two month absence from the track and may need a race or two to get back in form though he does have two schooling race wins since getting back to racing and worth having on the ticket here. I will also use both the (1) RC Chasemyshadow who has a win from the one box just a few races back and the hard running (5) Tebucky Jones who shows good potential since arriving here from the Palm Beach track.
Pick 6-3-1-5
Race 9 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - A very competitive field in this one but I'm going with the (2) Atascocita Gray to win a close one. He is the recently crowned winner of the 2014 Southland Derby and is going for his fourth win in his last five races. Out fast and going paw to paw with him will be the (5) Flying Riot who not only has a good strong rush but who can also come from behind. He has five straight top two finishes and I look for these two talented greyhounds to battle from start to finish for the win. The (4) CBJ Irish Cream and the (8) Gus McRae are not to be overlooked and should be included on tri and superfecta plays.
Pick 2-5-4-8
Race 18 - Grade AA - 703 yard course - A dandy finish to the evening's races as I'm going with the (6) Flying War Wager to hit the lid and never look back. He is running as good as any distance greyhound at Southland at this time and is going for his eight straight top two finish as well as his 13th straight top three effort. He's the key but will face some stout challengers including the (4) Barts Goldngoose who is going for his third straight win and has a powerful late move down the stretch. Also a threat, the (3) Gigawatt likes the inside and also has a nice strong closing ability. The (8) KL's Pete comes out fast and will certainly need a good break here in order to find running room on the rail where he likes to run.
Pick 6-4-3-8
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 7th race, a grade AA contest over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (8) HL's Travis. He is well posted for his mid to wide running style and has enough early speed to put himself in a good position to make a solid run here. Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
