Greyhound Preview - SOUTHLAND 9/22/14

Race 4 -Grade B - 583 yard course - I'm going with the (6) Dark N Demure as the key in this one. She is a young greyhound who has shown talent and ability in her young career of eleven races and has ten top four finishes in those contests. She is coming off a nice six length win and with her good rush she should be in good position going into the turn. The (4) GS Bella will provide tough competition and if she can avoid the trouble she's been encountering lately and get a decent break she could battle for the win as well. The (1) Mega Mitey Mite is a recent transfer here from the Caliente track and likes the inside and does have decent early speed so worth a spot on the ticket. The (8) Kiowa Jet Josh had 11 top four finishes in 14 races at Tri State before coming to Southland and does show good schooling efforts from the wide boxes and I'll use him in case he finds running room early.
Pick 6-4-1-8
Race 9 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - A very tough field of greyhounds but the pick here is the (4) Flying Riot to make it three wins in a row and four out of his last five races. He is a very consistent runner as evidenced by his 25 top two finishes in 44 races and he will be tough to beat here. The (7) CBJ Old Glory and the (8) Slatex Frio both have good early speed and will be battling for the lead right out of the box and should be included as either one could steal the win should Flying Riot encounter any kind of trouble. To finish the play, I'll use the (5) Mega Poindexter who has already won three races since coming here from Derby Lane..
Pick 4-7-8-5
Race 18 - Grade AA - 660 yard course - The key here is the (4) Topline Drive who has been rocking and rolling with three wins and two third place finishes in his last six races and I see him making his strong late move just in time to win this one at the wire. The (6) L's Beach Bride has been running strong lately and should be in the chase here. She likes it mid-track and has both decent early speed and a good closing ability down the stretch. The (1) PJ Refined has seven wins already in her very young career and that includes four wins over this distance. This talented greyhound also holds the track record at Abilene and certainly bears watching thru out her career. For tri and superfecta plays I will include the (8) Flying Zinc who may be able to find early running room with a good break.
Pick 4-6-1-8
The MoneyMaker play of the evening is in the 7th race, a Grade AA contest over the 583 yard course and the pick here is the (7) HL's Travis who likes it mid-track and who is capable of going to the front with a good strong rush. Odds should be good on him and he's worth giving a shot here.
