Greyhound Preview: Southland for /17/2014

April 17th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

This evening's races features several good money opportunities early in the program and a couple later on to make this night a potential cash bonanza.  Thanks for reading and good luck to all.

Race 1 - This is a grade A contest over the 583 yard course and I like the (2) Slatex Jamaica to pull an upset right off the bat. He likes the inside and shows a close second place finish last time out as he was caught in the stretch. There is a good bit of early speed in this race but I do like the (3) Arkans TT Gator to be vying for the lead right out of the box. He also likes the rail and is hard to catch once in front. The (5) Dutch Dice has been off for over three months but has schooled back with promise and I am taking a shot on him to be closing fast here. Another early speed greyhound is the (6) KB'S Jibba Jabba who I will use to finish my tri and superfecta plays.

Picks: 2 - 3 - 5 - 6

Race 2 - Here is a grade D race over the 660 yard distance course and I am going with the (8) KR Amp Me Up. He has finished second in his last two races at this distance and ran a sizzling 37.16 time in one of them. This is a promising young pup with a  bright future indeed. I like the (4) No Prisoners off his last race where ran hard to finish second and who may be out early in this one. A couple of double drop greyhounds that bear watching are the (5) Lucky Dawg and the (6) K'S Krieger whose class should put them close.

Picks: 8 - 4 - 5 - 6

Race 5 - This is a grade A race over the 583 yard course and I'm going with the (5) Braska Dusty, a talented greyhound who gives 110% effort each time out. He is coming off three distance races over the 660 course and should be ready to go here. The (3) Ace High has been the beaten favorite the past two races but he likes the inside and shouldn't be overlooked here. Also a threat is the (4) Flying Slate, he has a good rush and will use it here to good advantage. To complete the ticket I will use the rail running (1) Kiowa Time Still in case of early trouble among the leaders.

Picks: 5 - 3 - 4 - 1

Race 10 - The grade C race is over the 583 yard course and I like the rail running (2) Arkans BD Brutus, an up and coming talented young pup who has two wins already and is 4 out of 4 in the money since starting his career here at Southland. The (9) Surfin Lizzy likes it mid to wide and being a double drop can't be overlooked from this post position. In less than 3 months time she went from grade M to grade A and though the competition was tough in her first go round in the higher grades, it won't be long till she moves back up. Also worthy of a play here are the (1) Radcliff and the (3) Kiowa Ricardo, both greyhounds who have been trying very hard as of late.

Picks: 2 - 9 - 1 - 3

Tonight's Moneymaker play is in the 8th, a grade D race over the 583 yard course and is the (3) Boc's Crusher who already has two wins and two seconds in eight career starts.
