Greyhound Preview: Southland for 4/14/2014

April 14th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

This evening's card features the 3rd round of the 2014 Southland Futurity Stakes and should be full of excitement, not only in those 6 stakes races but in the other races as well with several top notch greyhounds showing their talents tonight. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 1 - Starting off the program is a grade D race over the 660 yard course and I like the rail running (2) WW Electric Eel who not only is a double drop greyhound but who has given a great effort in finishing second and third in his last two races and who I believe is the one to beat here. Also a double drop is the late running (5) PJ InTheMoney who has had trouble of late but likes it wide and will certainly be flying at the finish. The (3) Magic Alltel got my attention by coming from last to 4th in her first distance race at Southland. She does show a distance win from the same box while at Orange Park. Finishing out the ticket I will use the (4) Slatex Angelfire.

Picks: 2 - 5 - 3 - 4

Race 6 - In this grade AA race over the 583 yard course the one to beat is the (6) Atascocita Gray who is going for his second straight win and fourth in his last 6 races. This solid running class AA greyhound has a very strong rush and loves it midtrack. I also like the (3) J'S Redneck Romeo as I feel he is in good position to be vying for the front here. Also a strong threat is the (4) Mega Quasar who shows 13 top four finishes in his past 16 races and who likes it mid to wide. For those of you who like the superfectas, I will use the  (7) Flying Han Solo who also likes it outside.

Picks: 6 - 3 - 4 - 7

Race 11 - This is one of the 2014 Spring Futurity contests this evening and it's a grade SAA contest over the 583 course and it features the (3) WW'S Dove Call who is going after her third straight win in this year's stakes series, she goes early and will be very hard to catch once she gets the lead. The up and coming talented young pup (6) L'S Nipco has both early speed and a good rush and likes it midtrack and is more than capable of being close at the finish.  Many times in these stakes races you will see a huge surprise or two so with that in mind I am going to use the (2) Magic Evo to provide a possible big pop to the wager in case of trouble among the frontrunners. Rounding out the ticket I will include the (7) Slatex Aspen who ran a very nice race last time in winning by 2 1/2 lengths.

Picks: 3 - 6 - 2 - 7

Race 18 - Finishing out the evening's racing card is another stakes race, a grade SAA contest over the 583 yard course. This race features the fabulous (2) Flying Titanium who is going for his third win in a row. He has won 16 of 22 in his short career at Southland and in the words of that fine Southern group, (for those of you who may remember the Amazing Rhythm Aces), the end is not in sight as you may very well be looking at the soon to be Southland 2014 Spring Futurity champion. Another talented and fine up and coming young greyhound is the (8) Dexter Ambigram. This hard running pup is quickly becoming one of my favorites at the track with his ability to overcome trouble with some strong finishes as evidenced by his last few races. To finish the tri and superfecta plays, I will use the rail running (1) Arkans Max and the mostly mid running (5) K'S Ray.

Picks: 2 - 8 - 1 - 5

This evening's Moneymaker play is in the 16th race, a grade AA contest over the 703 distance course and it is the rail running (2) Flying Smoky. Good luck to everyone.
