Greyhound Preview: Southland for 4/24/2014

April 24th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

Thursday's twilight card is an interesting one in that most of my picks are concentrated on the 583 yard course for a change though I do like one of the distance races as you will read about below. There are a couple of greyhounds that are playbacks from a few weeks ago and those are also included in this evening's picks. Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.

Race 1 - Here is a grade B contest over the 583 yard course and a race in which I'm going with the hard running (3) CBJ Irish Cream who is much the class of this field. He doesn't have a win in 2014 but you can't overlook the fact that he had 12 wins and 8 second place finishes in 33 races last season. The (2) AMF Reset lost by 1/2 length in her last race from the seven box and now draws an inside box which better suits her running style. Also worth looking at is the (7) Arkans Ryan who has some nice early speed and the (5) Radcliff, a nice greyhound with a good rush and a midtrack running style.

Picks: 3 - 2 - 7 - 5

Race 6 - This is a grade A race over the 583 yard course and the pick here is the (5) Macklemore. His good rush and mid to wide running style make him my choice here, not to mention the fact that last time in this grade from the same five box he won by 9 lengths. The (7) GS Fiftyshades likes it wide and a gave a very nice effort last race despite being bumped early. I will also include on the ticket the late speed and closing(1) BOC's Steelforce and the (8) Turbo Hugo who shows good early speed.

Picks: 5 - 7 - 1 - 8

Race 9 - Here is a grade TC race over the 703 yard course and I am still staying with the double drop (5) Flying Euphrates as I believe he gets the early lead here and hangs on for the win. The (3) JT Octane likes the inside and has been trying hard lately, I look for him to have a clean trip this time out for a change. The (8) PJ Moneyindabank and the (1) SE's Truck Driver will finish out the tri and superfecta plays.

Picks: 5 - 3 - 8 -1

Race 14 - In this grade B race over the 583 yard course I like the (1) WW Fastrack Joe to use his favorable post position and inside running style to pull off the upset. The young and talented pup (4) CBJ Old Glory may have something to say about it as he is going for 4 wins in a row, moving up from maiden to C with no problems at all. Also in the chase I can't overlook the Palm Beach invader (9) TF Tommy Salami as he came here with 13 wins in 33 races. It's been tough for him in his first few races at Southland but he's worth a play here. Finishing out my tri and superfecta plays I will use the (7) Magic Gavin.

Picks: 1 - 4 - 9 - 7

The Moneymaker play for this evening's races is in the 2nd race, a grade A contest over the 583 course and is the mid to wide running (5) RS Moneyclip. This dog gives you a 110% effort each and every time and may be overlooked in this tough field but is very capable of getting the win.
