Greyhound Preview: Southland for 4/3/2014

April 3rd, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

Thursday's card at Southland will be a bettor's delight as it presents numerous opportunities for players to make a nice score so let's get right to the picks.

Race 4 - This is a grade D distance race of 660 yards and the (4) Arkans BD Skylar looks to be the front and should hold the lead for the win. She went to the lead last time but was caught in the stretch to finish second. The (1) WW Electric Eel likes the inside and should have running room after much trouble last time out. Coming off two second place finishes in his last 3 races, the (5) Holly's Ranger is very deserving of being on the ticket and I will use the (7) Bracket Buster in my superfecta play as he should be closing down the stretch.

Pick: 4 - 1 - 5 - 7

Race 5 - This race is a grade A over the 583 yard course and I like the (9) Kelso Cork Man who being posted well should avoid early trouble and get his first win of the 2014 season. The (6) Arkans BD Stan had much trouble at the break last time out but finished strong for show and I like the effort this greyhound always seems to give. Not to be overlooked is the (3) Bella Keeneland fresh off a B grade win last time and completing the superfecta ticket I will go with the (7) PJ Fresno who came here from Derby Lane as I like his good rush and strong closing ability.

Pick: 9 - 6 - 3 - 7

Race 7 - A grade M race over the 583 yard course brings us to the (1) Time Square who had much trouble on the first turn last time out but showed strong closing speed down the stretch. I believe he wins going away here. In the hunt as well should be the (2) PJ A Littlejazzy who also will be coming fast at the end. She may be overlooked by the betting public but I can't see leaving her off the ticket in this race. Going early should be the (5) HK Irene and rounding out the ticket I will add the (4) Dutch Ember who shows she has some late speed herself.

Pick: 1 - 2 - 5 - 4

Race 12 - Here is a grade C race over the 583 yard course and my pick is the (7) Flyin Commandant who is a double drop and long overdue for a win. With a good rush and a good post, I like the (8) Got That Swing to be challenging for the win. Another early speed effort by the (3) SE'S Ella F and she could turn out to be the surprise of the race. I like the (1) SE'S Mr Trophy to finish out my tri and superfecta plays.

Pick: 7 - 8 - 3 - 1

Tonight's Moneymaker Play is race 16, a grade A race over the 583 yard course and is the (1) WW's Grover who loves the rail.
