Greyhound Preview: Southland for 5/14/2014

May 14th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

A full slate of greyhound racing is on tap at Southland for Wednesday with 18 exciting races awaiting us this evening. There is a good mix of our veteran greyhounds along with several new young and talented pups and a good many solid top grade performers who will be showing their skills in what's sure to be an enjoyable time at the track.

Race 2 - Here is a grade A race over the 583 yard course and I'm going with the hard running (7) Volando Dilbert who since coming to the Southland track from Caliente shows seven top four finishes in eight races. He has a big rush and should be close to the front early. This makes the seventh straight time he has drawn either the seven or eight box and I look for another big race from him here. The (3) Kiowa Abby Brown likes the inside, has early speed and hopefully can avoid any trouble on the turns because he certainly will be coming hard down the stretch. To finish out the tri and superfecta plays I will use the (8) Arkans Quest and the (1) Boc's Delko.

Picks: 7 - 3 - 8 - 1

Race 4 - This is a grade B contest over the 583 yard course and I like the (8) CBJ Irish Cream to get the win. He likes it mid-track, he's posted well and he has three wins, a second and a third in five starts out of the eight box in his career. The (7) Flying Rainmaker is dropping in grade and with his good rush he is more then capable of being in the chase. I will use the (1) Mega Defiant because of the inside post position and his early rush may be enough for him to hang on for the tri and superfecta plays. The (2) Oshkosh Angela is an outstanding young greyhound as evidenced by her three wins and two second place finishes in her first five races while steadily moving up in grade so don't count her out at all.

Picks: 8 - 7 - 1 - 2

Race 8 - This race is a grade A contest over the 583 yard course and I'm going with the inside running (2) Dundrum who just a couple of weeks ago won three straight grade AA races before running into trouble lately. Also capable of winning this tough field is the (1) Kebo Bellagio who has adapted well to the Southland track since arriving here from the track at Mardi Gras. He has two starts here and has finished second and third in those and is a fine young greyhound who shows a lot of talent. The (7) Arkans Quincey will be out early and vying for the lead and I will also use in my play the (4) Jedi Freckles who has fifteen top four finishes in seventeen races.

Picks: 2 - 1 - 7 - 4

Race 18 - The final race of the evening is a grade TAA contest over the 660 yard distance course and the pick here will be the (2) Kiowa Groom. He ran an impressive race last time out over this distance and picked up the win after being off for three months and I believe he will make it two straight here. The (7) KL's Lucas has good early speed and likes it mid-track so he's certainly sitting in a good spot to go paw to paw with the front runners. Also with tons of early speed, the (5) SE's Redneck Bob can't be overlooked here. I will add to the ticket the (6) D'bulls Megan who won last time out by six lengths over this same course..

Picks: 2 - 7 - 5 - 6

Tonight's Moneymaker play is in the 9th race, a grade C race over the 660 yard course and the pick is the (2) L's Pyrat Pete.
