Greyhound Preview: Southland for 5/16/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
Another big weekend of exciting greyhound racing is upon us and the Southland program for the evening is loaded with future stars and savvy veterans showing their abilities and talent. The picks include an early distance race along with a maiden contest that get things going as well as a couple of solid top grade races. One of the best greyhounds running anywhere will be showcasing his skills so enjoy the show as we get the weekend off to a great start by hopefully putting cash in your pocket courtesy of some winning wagers. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Race 1 - Grade D - 660 yards - To get the evening started with a winner I'm going to use the (8) Boc's Snowflake as the key. She likes it wide, has early speed and grabbed a win over this grade and course less than a month ago. I am also going to give the (1) Dutch Phoenix a shot here. He likes the inside and though he's not much of a breaker, his bottom end speed should be enough down the stretch to give him a chance at pulling off the upset. He has two of these distant races under his belt now and I look for him to give a fine effort here. Filling out the ticket for tri's and superfectas I will use the (3) Joe Purma and the (7) WW's Seige.
Picks: 8 - 1 - 3 - 7
Race 3 - Grade M - 583 yards - I like the (2) Oshkosh Whitney to win here as she has a lot of early speed and likes the inside so she should get the lead early, avoid trouble and hang on for the win. The (8) Slatex Sonoma is also posted well as she appears to have a mid-track running style and last time out of the eight box gave a good effort in finishing second. I am still giving the (7) Time Square a shot despite his inconsistent efforts of late. He can't seem to get by the first turn without having trouble but I'm not going to overlook him as he has shown some good late speed down the stretch. The (4) NB's Jet Fuel will complete my play.
Picks: 2 - 8 - 7 - 4
Race 7 - Grade AA - 583 yards - The highlight of the night has the mega talented (8) Flying Titanium who is going for his 20th win in 28 races in his young career. With his blazing speed it should be him to the lead with the rest of the greyhounds battling it out for second place. I will give an edge to the (1) CBJ Kit Kat as he does like the rail and gives 110% each time out. The (2) Turbo Ted also likes it inside but has he has been encountering trouble lately, if he gets a clean trip he could be the surprise of the race should there be any trouble in front of him. Finishing the ticket, I'm using the (4) Flying Slate who has been running hard and shows four quiniela finishes in his last six races.
Picks: 8 - 1 - 2 - 4
Race 11 - Grade AA - 660 yards - I am going with the (1) Kl's Scott who is trying to make it two straight wins from the one box. He should be the frontrunner out of the box and is more than capable of going box to wire. The (7) Country Stanley is also going for two wins in a row and does like it mid-track so I can't overlook him here. Some of you who follow these picks may remember that I have used the (5) Pescadojourney on occasions as she has no quit in her at all, always trying hard no matter what and I do like her to have a shot at the tri and superfecta plays. Completing the ticket I'm going with the wide running (6) Flying Perpetua who is capable of a big stretch run.
Picks: 1 - 7 - 5 - 6
This evening's Moneymaker play is in the 4th race, a grade D contest over the 583 yard course and it's the invader from Caliente, the (6) Incko. He likes it mid to wide and shows some early speed potential. I am hoping he can clear the turn in good shape because with the odds he is going to go off at, he could be the surprise of the evening.
