Greyhound Preview: Southland for 5/19/2014

May 19th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

This evening's program is highlighted by the 2013 All-American and multi stakes winner Kiowa Producer going after his 11th win in his last 12 races and his 30th win in 48 races at Southland. He is the real deal indeed and will be running in the 18th race. There are also several good wagering opportunities that I've found worth pursuing so on with the picks. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 3 - Grade M - 583 yards - I'm going with the (2) HL's Twix as the one to beat as she has decent early speed and should be vying for the front right out of the box. She also has five top four finishes in her six races of her young career and I look for a good race from her here. I am still staying with the (8) Boc's Ms Hattie. She likes it mid to wide and is well posted in this contest to avoid early trouble and be closing fast at the finish. I also will use the (3) Brother Busby as he has a good rush and I like the late speed down the stretch of the (7) Amwatiam.

Picks: 2 - 8 - 3 - 7

Race 5 - Grade TB - 583 yards - The key to this race is going to be the (7) Sakkara Me O My who is a mid tracker runner and a strong closer who I see catching the leaders down the stretch and winning at the wire. Also posted well with a mid track running style is the (8) BF Frank. He shows a good early rush and may clear the turn in really good position so I'm using him here. Not to be overlooked is the (3) AMF Reset who likes the inside and is coming off two second place finishes in a row. Completing the ticket let's use the (5) WW's Torch. I know she's been having trouble getting around the first turn lately but she can close so I'll use for tri and superfecta plays.

Picks: 7 - 8 - 3 - 5

Race 7 - Grade AA - 583 yards - The rail running (1) WW's Grover is the pick here in a field loaded with talent.  He likes the inside post, having won three out of six races from the one box in his career and should be the one to catch. The always tough (4) HL's Travis is out fast himself and is coming off a victory last time out and will be trying to make it three wins in his last four races. As I stated above, this contest is full of talented greyhounds and the (6) War Wagon is certainly one of those. He just missed making it five wins in a row last time out (finished second) and will be in the chase again here. Also I will use the outside running (7) Turbo Omars Red to complete my ticket.

Picks: 1 - 4 - 6 - 7

Race 17 - Grade SC - 820 yards - Always an exciting contest, this race over the super marathon course has the (8) WW's Kin going for his second straight win from this box at this distance. Hard to argue against him doing so but the (1) Jake Ballard may have something to say about it. In his first race over this course, he came from next to last to finish a fast closing third. Look for another good effort with better results tonight from him. Finishing the tri and superfecta plays I'll use the (4) Penrose Keenan and the (3) AJN Lebron James.

Picks: 8 - 1 - 4 - 3

The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 9th race, a grade TC over the 703 yard course and the choice is the (1) Daytona. She does have the class to pull the upset and shows a second place finish in grade B and a third place finish in grade A, both from the one box over this same distance. The odds should be good on her for a nice payoff so I'm going to give her a shot to get the win here.
