Greyhound Preview: Southland for 5/26/2014

May 26th, 2014

Southland Greyhound Park has an entertaining and appealing card for today's racing action as there are a total of 20 races to enjoy and wager on. I've concentrated my picks today on several of the lower grade contests on this program as it looks like there will be some very good payoff prices on these races. Good luck to all!

Race 3 - Grade D - 583  yards - The pick here is going to be the (5) CBJ Gordy. With her dropping in grade and having early speed, I like her going to the front here and holding on. Also in the chase will be the (8) Atascocita Trev who will be challenging for the early lead as well. The (6) KB's Power Rush has been somewhat inconsistent lately but I will include him in case he gets loose early. I will also use the (3) HK Irene who likes the inside to complete the play.

Picks: 5 - 8 - 6 - 3

Race 7 - Grade M - 583 yards - I'm going with the (2) AMF Sunny Honey who has been trying hard lately with two seconds and one third place finish in her last three races and I believe she closes down the stretch to get the win. The (4) Big Boy Beer has encountered his share of trouble lately but I'm giving him another chance here to show what he can do. Also in the tri and superfecta plays, I will use  both outside positioned greyhounds, the (8) CT King Of Rock who has a nice rush and the late speed of the (7) PJ Wine Glass to complete the ticket.

Picks: 2 - 4 - 8 - 7

Race 9 - Grade D - 583 yards - A very competitive grade D contest, this is a tough field at first glance but I do like the post position of the (7) Oshkosh Alrick who likes it mid to wide. I believe he will be vying for the lead around the first turn and he will be hard to beat if gets it. The early speed of the (6) Ruff Tuff Babe may be enough to give her an edge early and she is well worth a play here. The (1) PJ North Star is coming off a nice win and the (5) Boc's Bk Roman is a double drop so I'll include both of these in my play.

Picks: 7 - 6 - 1 - 5

Race 16 - Grade D - 703 yards - In this distance race, the key in my opinion is the (1) PJ I'm A Jammer who likes the inside and I'm looking for him to be out fast from the one box and be in good shape early to contend for the win. The late speed of the (2) WW's Luminous will make him a threat coming down the stretch and enough to catch the early speed (5) C Ville Wiggins who will be vying for the lead right out of the box. The (3) Go Go Georgia is an invader from Derby Lane and seems to be adjusting to the Southland course better and better each time out so I'll use her to finish the tri and superfecta plays.

Picks: 1 - 2 - 5 - 3

The Moneymaker play this evening is in the 18th race, a grade TB contest over the 703 yard course and is the (7) Ivanhoe.  Since he has encountered much trouble as of late I'm disregarding his last several outings and looking for his class to give him the edge here to pull off the upset.
