Greyhound Preview: Southland for 6/13/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
This evening's Southland card brings 18 exciting and full of action greyhound races for us to enjoy. Most of the picks are concentrated on the higher grade races for tonight as there are some talented runners going in them. I do have a couple of D grade contests that I like and one is the Moneymaker play of the program. Let's get the weekend started in a big way by putting some cash in our pockets.
Race 4 - Grade AA - 583 yards - The choice here is the (2) Alone All Alone who is going for his third straight win and his fourth in his last seven races. He doesn't have the best starting position as he likes it mid to wide but his strong early rush makes him a threat to avoid trouble and clear the turn in good shape. Another candidate for the win is the (5) Mega Quasar who has nice early speed and who has been running hard as evidenced by his win and two second place finishes in his last three contests. To finish out the tri and superfecta plays, I will use the mid running (8) One Eye Jack and the (6) Flying Rainmaker who has fifteen top four finishes in sixteen races.
Picks: 2 - 5 - 8 - 6
Race 12 - Grade D - 583 yards - I'm going with the (6) Fly Jonah Hill who ran an impressive first career race by winning by 6 1/2 lengths. This followed a schooling race where he also won by 6 1/2 lengths so with that impressive start I'm using him as the key here. The (2) Van Brundt has been bumped and blocked in three of his last five contests but does have a win and a third in the other two races. I will also use the wide running and strong closing (9) Edjamuhkaytion and the (4) G Callen who is the class of the field.
Picks: 6 - 2 - 9 - 4
Race 17 - Grade A - 703 yards - The key here is the (3) Gigawatt who just recently won the 2014 Razorback stakes series over the 660 yard course. With his outstanding closing ability you don't have to worry about him when he breaks slow as he will be flying like a freight train down the stretch. Also to be considered as a possible winner is the (1) AMF Virginiaslim who even though he likes it mid-track he does show a win from the one box less than a month ago over this same course. The (5) KL's Dakota has tons of early speed and should be the frontrunner out of the box and the (8) KB's Hot Idea is an up and coming young pup with potential and he likes it mid to wide so he has a good position here.
Picks: 3 - 1 - 5 - 8
Race 18 - Grade AA - 703 yards - I am going with the (5) Flying War Wager to be the one to beat here. Since coming from the Naples track she has fit right in at Southland by winning three of her last four races over the distance courses and I'll stay with her to keep her hot streak going. The (1) Magic Evo will certainly have her say in the matter as she herself is going for her fourth win in her last five contests. These two should go paw to paw in a battle to the finish line. Completing the tri and superfecta plays I will use the (6) Boc's Yohanblake and the (2) L's Flaco.
Picks: 5 - 1 - 6 - 2
This evening's Moneymaker play is in the 7th race, a grade D contest over the 660 yard course and is the (6) PJ New York. He is a double drop in class and likes it mid to wide and I'm looking for him to be flying down the stretch and to win it at the wire.
