Greyhound Preview: Southland for 6/19/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
This evening's card at Southland has on tap 18 exciting and entertaining races that have several promising wagering opportunities and I've concentrated my picks on those that stand out. There is only one higher grade race in the choices tonight as the other picks are in the lower grades so with that said, it's on to the selections. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Race 1 - Grade C - 583 yards - The pick here is the (7) AMF Sunny Blaze who is coming off a very impressive six length win in his last outing. He likes it mid to wide and is posted well and with his strong early rush should clear the turn in good shape to get the win. The (4) Mega Dante also has a nice rush and is a double drop in class and shouldn't be overlooked in this field. The (2) PJ Ricco Sauve is going after his third straight win and does show early speed to go along with his mid-track running style. I will also include the (3) Boc's Bk Roman who likes the inside and just a few races back ran a blistering 31.85 time while winning by twelve lengths.
Pick 7-4-2-3
Race 4 - Grade A - 583 yards - A tough field in this contest but I like the (1) Windy Fairbanks as the key. This railrunner is posted well and is coming off a nice win last time out. Here is an impressive stat about him, in six races from the one box in his career he has five wins. Another very capable runner is the (8) Mega Wily. This greyhound likes it mid-track and has both a decent rush and a good closing ability so I'll use him here as he does have four top 3 finishes in his last six races. To complete the tri and superfecta plays I will use the early speed of both the (4) Arkans Quincey and the (3) One Eye Jack in case they steal the lead right out of the box.
Pick 1-8-4-3
Race 6 - Grade D - 660 yards - Here is a distance contest and I'm going with the (2) T's Heavy Chevy as the one to beat. This young pup has had 12 races over this course and has accumulated 10 top four finishes in those contests including 2 wins. He probably won't be among the early leaders but with his strong closing move I think he wins this one at the wire. The (3) PJ Moneyindabank is a drop in grade and could try to go early here so in case he does I'll include him in my play. The (5) Boc's Ms Hattie likes it mid-track and may also be a frontrunner as she also shows speed out of the box at times. I will use the (8) CBJ Jordys Girl who could be the surprise of the race as she does have a third place finish in a B grade race over this distance course a month or so back.
Pick 2-3-5-8
Race 10 - Grade D - 583 yards - In this race my pick is the (8) PJ Refined to make it two straight wins in his just starting career. He won his two schooling races before winning his first official outing last time out so really he is undefeated on the Southland track to this point. He looks like he can run from any post so I'm going with him as key. The (1) Boc's Bk Dom likes the inside and the (4) RC Tees Babydoll has been running the distance course lately but is capable of hitting the lid and must be considered for tri and superfecta plays. The (3) PJ Chicago may be able to close so I will include her as well.
Pick 8-1-4-3
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 9th race, a grade M contest over the 583 yard course and I'm going with the (4) Flying Tigerlady. She shows early speed and won both schooling races she had but in her first two official races she has been bumped and blocked. I'm going to go with her as both of the schooling wins came from the same 4 box she has drawn here.
