Greyhound Preview: Southland for 6/23/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
The card at Southland for Monday has 18 exciting races for the public to enjoy and bet on and I've picked out several contests that I believe to offer good wagering opportunities. There are a couple of talented greyhounds trying to extend their winning streaks so I included them in the picks. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Race 6 - Grade M - 583 yards - Going with the (1) PJ Gotochurch as the key in this one. Tons of early speed, likes the inside and should be the leader right out of the box. Gave a nice effort in her first official contest last time out with a nice second place finish. The (7) Flying Tigerlady also shows some early speed and though she has had problems getting around the first turn, she did have two schooling wins and I look for her to avoid trouble here and be in good shape to finish strong. The (2)PJ Superior has three top four finishes in four races so I'll include him as well as the (5)TK I'll Fly Away who likes it outside and has a good closing ability.
Picks: 1 - 7 - 2 - 5
Race 7 - Grade TA - 660 yards - The pick here is the hot running (7) Rite Away Rachel who is going for her fourth win in her last six races all over this distance course. She has a good rush as well as a strong closing ability and though the competition in this grade is tough, I think she battles for the win here.
Also worth consideration is the (5) AMF Virginiaslim who likes it mid-track, has the class and is back to the 660 yard course after several races over the 703 distance course. Finishing out the tri and superfecta plays I will include the (2) Mega Latito who likes the inside and has early speed and the (3) Ghost Buster who is from the Palm Beach track but already has two wins at Southland at this distance.
Picks: 7 - 5 - 2 - 3
Race 10 - Grade B - 583 yards - Going for his fourth straight win I am picking the (1) PJ Ricco Suave to continue his winning ways. With the two dog looking to get wide, the early rush and mid-track running style of PJ Ricco should be enough to get the job done. The (8) Arkans Bd Buck also has a nice rush and will be battling for the early lead as well so these two should be the frontrunners though there is certainly a lot of early speed in this race. In case either of those encounter trouble I will use both the (4) PJ Charlie and the (6) SE's High Noon as they show quick foot out the box as well.
Picks: 1 - 8 - 4 - 6
Race 11 - Grade AA - 583 yards - The pick in this race is the (2) Alone All Alone who is going for his fifth straight win. He likes it mid to wide but don't let the inside post position he has drawn bother you as he has a win from the 1 box and 2 wins from the 2 box in just his last four races. He is running too good to not be the key here in my opinion. The (7) Aqib Talib was going for his third straight win last time but was bumped and finished sixth, I'm overlooking that race as I believe he avoids trouble here and contends for the win. Also a threat will be the early speed (8) Mega Quasar who likes it mid-track and barely lost last time, beaten by only a half a length. I will include the (6) Slatex Garfield to complete the ticket.
Picks: 2 - 7 - 8 - 6
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 13th race, a grade TB contest over the 660 yard course and the pick is the (7) Flyin Pink Floyd. He is dropping in class and should have enough early speed to clear and be the one to catch.
Good luck to everyone.
