In case you may have missed it, congratulations are in store for Atascocita Gray and the Darren Henry kennel who won the 2014 Southland Derby Championship stakes race last evening against a very talented and competitive field. As for this evening's card, there is a full slate of 18 exciting greyhound races for our viewing and wagering pleasure.

Race 3 - Grade M - 583 yard course - I'm coming right back with the (2) PJ GotoChurch as the key as she was bumped last time out. Before that she had finished second in her first official race after having two second place finishes in her schooling contests so with her early speed and inside running style I'm going with her as the one to beat.  Both the (7) Slatex Daytona and the (6) LK's Hancock have shown early speed and rush as well and can't be overlooked here as they could also be vying for front right out of the box. Finishing the ticket I will use the (5) Come Back Wilson for tri and superfecta plays.

Picks: 2 - 7 - 6 - 5

Race 5 - Grade M - 583 yard course - Another maiden race here and the pick is the (6) Border Campaign, an impressive pup who won all three of his schooling races by two, eight and twelve lengths and is looking to continue his winning ways as he starts his first official race. The (7) TK Rock Of Ages likes it mid to wide, has early speed and worth consideration should the six dog have any early trouble. I will include the (3) PJ Debonair who gets out quick but has had trouble clearing the turns and the (5) Tara's Turn who has five top four finishes in five races and who will be closing fast.

Picks: 6 - 7 - 3 - 5

Race 9 - Grade TC - 703 yard course - The key to this race in my opinion is the (2) Distant Days who has several factors that have me liking him to get the win here. He likes the inside, he is a double drop in grade and he is now racing a longer distance then in previous races and he does have closing ability so the extra distance should benefit him. The (8) Pink Cadillac has early speed and has a mid to wide running style and could challenge for lead out of the box. The (5) Slatex Tabasco has three top three finishes in a row over this distance and the (6) Slippery Slade will complete the ticket.

Picks: 2 - 8 - 5 - 6

Race 14 - Grade D - 583 yard course - I'm using the (1) Flying Tigerlady to make it two straight wins after she won by 9 lengths last time out. She likes the inside and if she repeats her big rush to the turn like she did in her last effort she will be hard to catch. For a big money surprise, I am using the (5) Boc's Cardoza to avoid early trouble and be in good position to make a run. The (2) Eye Roller only has one win in 26 races but does have 17 top four finishes so I won't leave her off the ticket. Finishing the play I will use the (9) PJ North Star as he likes it mid to wide and is well posted here.

Picks: 1 - 5 - 2 - 9

The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 6th race, a Grade TB contest over the 660 yard course and is the (5) Magic Sprint. This greyhound came here from the Mardi Gras track having won six races out of fourteen and though he only has a second place finish in seven races so far at Southland, he does show early speed and could be the frontrunner out of the box. I will give him a shot here at pulling the upset.
