Greyhound Preview: Southland for 6/4/2014

June 4th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

This Southland card of 18 entertaining greyhound races has the potential to be a wild and wacky Wednesday with some good possibilities for very nice payouts. I have concentrated my picks on several upset specials for this evening and have those selections listed below. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 6 - Grade C - 583 yards - I'm going with a huge upset in this race by selecting the (1) O Ya Gordy to be the surprise of the evening. He is a young pup who shows promise and likes the inside despite encountering trouble in his last race from the one box. He gets a longer distance this time from the one box (two previous races over this course he finished second and third) and I look for him to be battling for the win here. The (3) Boc's Snow Flake will be out fast and vying for the early lead and I will include both the (8) Flying Mercenary and the (6) PJ Inthemoney as they are the class of the race.

Picks: 1 - 3 - 8 - 6

Race 9 - Grade TD - 660 yards - Here I'm using the (5) Volbeat as the key as he has a second and third place finish in his last two contests over this course and has enough early speed to contend for the lead right out of the box. The (4) Braska Olive You is coming off a big seven length win last time out and will be trying to repeat that effort so I can't leave her out here. The (1) Flying Felicity has tons of early speed and looks to be the frontrunner, at least for the first part of the race as she does show some fade tendencies but is capable of holding on for tri and superfecta plays. Finishing the ticket I will use the Palm Beach invader the (3) Kay Rock Sweet who has been trying hard lately.

Picks: 5 - 4 - 1 - 3

Race 12 - Grade A - 583 yards - Once again I'm sticking with the (1) Dexter Ambigram as the key. This young and talented greyhound has had his ups and downs lately with four top three finishes in his last ten races (including two wins) but also six finishes of fifth or below. That being said, he does have two stake race wins over two different courses so the ability is definitely there and since he is not on the morning line, well worth a shot here considering the odds he may have here. In the chase I like the (2) CR Joe who not only has early speed but likes the rail as well and may be vying for the front in this contest. Also having a lot of early speed is the (9) PJ Super Duper, he has had the lead in the stretch the last two times in this grade only to lose by a length both times. I won't overlook the (7) Kiowa Jared as he will be closing fast.

Picks: 1 - 2 - 9 - 7

Race 17 - Grade TAA - 820 yards - A super marathon race is always exciting and I'm going with the (5) Flying Platinum to make it two straight wins at this distance off a big six and a half length win last time out. The (3) Flying Smoky is going for his fourth win in his last five races and will be going paw to paw early with Flying Platinum. Also to be included in the play, I'm using the (1) KL's Pete who loves the rail and with his inside running style could easily hit the tri and superfecta plays. Finishing the ticket I will use (8) Flying Uzi who likes it mid to wide and who has a strong closing run.

Picks: 5 - 3 - 1 - 8

This evening's Moneymaker play is in the 2nd race, a grade A contest over the 583 yard course and is the (1) Benny Dunn.

He likes the inside and has decent early speed and I like his chances of clearing the turn in be in good position to win this race.
