Greyhound Preview: Southland for 6/5/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
Thursday's program at Southland looks like a bettor's delight with several solid play wagers and a couple of contests with some very playable longshots that could bring us some very nice payoffs. I like a few of the lower grade races along with a couple of top grade contests so let's see if we can get started with a winner right off the bat. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Race 1 - Grade D - 583 yards - I like the (1) Arkans Ceasar as the key here as he loves the rail and has tons of early speed having gone to the front in each of his last four races. He does have a tendency to fade but with three wins already in his young career I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in this one. The (8) Macho Hero has ten top four finishes in fourteen races and may just be the surprise of the race if he can get by the first turn in decent shape. I will also include on my ticket the (5) Rasmus who is capable of being a frontrunner here with his quick pace out of the box and the (3) T's Boss Hoss who has a ton of late closing ability.
Picks: 1 - 8 - 5 - 3
Race 4 - Grade A - 583 yards - I am going with the (1) Kiowa Leer Lee to be the one to beat as he seems to have adjusted quickly to the Southland track after coming here from Palm Beach. He won his schooling race and then came right back with a strong second place finish in his first official race here. He has early speed and the inside post should give him the edge in this field. I do like the (7) Aqib Talib to be in the chase as well, his last win came out of this same seven box in the same grade as he is in tonight. Finishing the tri and superfecta plays I will use the (4) Chillin It and the (8) Flyin Brick Road.
Picks: 1 - 7 - 4 - 8
Race 14 - Grade D - 583 yards - I was going to use the (9) CBJ Jordy's Girl as the Moneymaker play this evening but decided instead to use this race as one of my picks. She was running in grade A just a little over two months ago and is the class here and I look for her to get back in form with a win tonight. I will also use the double drop (2) WW's Dove Like as she will be closing fast and should she get around the turn in good shape she will be a threat to win at the wire. To complete the ticket I will use both the (4) Braska Dragon and the (1) Slatex Sonoma in case there happens to be any trouble among the leaders.
Picks: 9 - 2 - 4 - 1
Race 17 - Grade A - 660 yards - This distance race has me going with the (8) Flying Perpetua as the key. This wide runner is posted well and will be the one to beat here. She had nine wins last season and though she has yet to win in 2014 she does have six top four finishes in eight races, last time she had the eight box, she ran a solid second. The (1) CBJ Tias Luv will be vying for the lead early and the inside box position may be the edge she needs. I will also use the (4) KL's Melissa who has early speed as well and who also is an inside runner. Completing the ticket I will include the (7) Kiowa Stay On.
Picks: 8 - 1 - 4 - 7
This evening's Moneymaker play is in the 7th race, a grade D contest over the 703 yard course and is the (2) PJ I'm A Jammer.
