Greyhound Preview: Southland for 6/9/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
The week gets started with a Monday Southland program of 18 exciting races and which features several distance races that grabbed my attention as good wagering opportunities. I have concentrated my picks on those races and listed them below. Let's see if we can't get the week started by putting cash in our pockets. Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
Race 5 - Grade A - 583 yard course - I am going with the (1) Aqib Talib as the key here. She runs good on the inside, has a nice rush and has run against Southland's best and held her on. The (3) Kiowa Leer Lee is a Palm Beach invader who came to Southland with eleven wins on his resume and has adjusted well it appears to the track. Tons of early speed and should be vying for the lead right out of the box. Finishing the tri and superfecta plays, I will use the (8) Bullet Chaser who likes it mid to wide and the (4) Slatex Garfield who is going for his third win in his last four races.
Pick 1-3-8-4
Race 11 - Grade AA - 660 yard course - I like the (4) Smokey Joe to win against this tough and talented field as I believe both he and the (5) Flying Zinc will be battling for the early lead and going paw to paw all the way to the finish line. I think Smokey Joe wins this one at the wire. The (7) Deacon Clayborne is going for his fifth win in his last seven contests so he's got to be included as well as the wide running (8) Slatex Plutonium.
Pick 4-5-7-8
Race 17 - Grade A - 660 yards - The pick here is the (1) WW Wise Up who loves the rail and who has been giving 110% lately despite encountering trouble as of late. I look for him to be vying for the early lead here and he should have decent odds at post time. The (4) CBJ Tias Luv is coming off a nice second place finish last time out and has decent early speed in which to challenge for the lead. To complete the ticket I will include the (6) Energy Drink who is another early speed greyhound that likes it mid-track and the (3) Kiowa Stay On who could be the surprise of the race.
Pick 1-4-6-3
Race 18 - Grade AA - 660 yards - I'm going with the (6) State Of Art to be the key here as he has nice early speed and likes it mid-track and is well posted here to make it happen. The (8) Kiowa Red Dawn is also in a good spot as he has a very good rush and loves it wide. I will also use the (3) Barts Hammerdown, a proven stakes runner who had two wins in the recent Razorback Classic Championship which included being the winner of the Razorback Classic Consolation race. The (2) Kay Matt Kim will make a bid for the front as she likes the inside and should have enough early speed to contend for the lead right out of the box.
Pick 6-8-3-2
The Moneymaker play is in the 6th race, a grade TC race over the 660 yard course and is the (7) T's Boss Hoss. This young greyhound has sixteen top four finishes in twenty four races and always seems to give a hard try. To show you how versatile he is, this is the fourth different course he has run in just a little over a month and which is a rare feat in itself.
