Greyhound Preview: Southland for 7/26/2014

July 26th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

The Saturday lineup at Southland is a good one with 18 exciting and entertaining races on tap for this evening. The picks are concentrated once again on the top grade contests as you will see some very competitive races tonight with solid Grade A and AA runners going paw to paw for the win. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 6 - Grade D - 583 yard course - I'm going with the (8) Mr. Shillelagh as the key as he likes it mid to wide and should have running room early. He has had trouble lately but already in has two wins in his young career of six races and being on the outside should help. The (6) Keeper Ratchet will be a major threat, especially if he gets the early lead. He is showing two impressive schooling wins along with a maiden win and these two should do battle from start to finish. The (4) PJ Ricco Suave is a double drop in class and does have three wins himself but will need to get out fast to be in the chase. I will finish the ticket with the (7) Oshkosh Pistol who could sneak in the tri and superfecta plays at the end.

Pick 8-6-4-7

Race 9 - Grade AA - 660 yard course - The play here is the (1) Topline Drive who likes the inside and has two wins and two second place efforts in his last six races. It's a tough field of talented greyhounds but I believe he gets the job done here. The (7) Bold Deceiver is well posted as he likes it mid-track and has two wins and a third place effort in his last three races, all over this same distance and same grade. The (4) Time Flies is coming off a win and will be challenging for the early lead and I'll use the (3) PJ You Ask Why in case he happens to get clear early as he has an outside running style.

Pick 1-7-4-3

Race 16 - Grade TA - 660 yard course - I'm going with the (3) CBJ Tias Luv to be the key in this one as I think she will be the frontrunner right out of the box due to her good early speed and the fact she is dropping in grade should help her get it. The (8) Ahridgeuhnull is posted well for his mid to wide running style and is capable of making a late move down the stretch to try and catch the leaders. I'll use the (2) KL's Rowdy as he also has some early speed as well as liking the inside so I can't overlook him in this field. Finishing the play I'm including the late running (5) Boc's Blitzerman who will be coming strong at the end.

Pick 3-8-2-5

Race 18 - Grade TAA - 703 yard course - The pick here is the (7) Flying War Wager who has been on fire since coming here from the Naples track. He has seven top three finishes in his last seven races including four wins so he's the key in this one. Both the (5) KL's Pete and the (2) Colt Classic are solid threats in this contest and could be battling for the early lead. I will also use the (8) TF's Ashley as she is a mid to wide runner and could find running room in which to make a move.

Pick 7-5-2-8

The Moneymaker pick for this evening is in the 5th race, a grade C contest over the 583 yard course and is the (8) Sakkara Me O My who likes it outside and is dropping in grade. She has been a solid grade A and B greyhound and with the post position and class drop, I'm giving her a play in this one.
