Greyhound Preview: Southland for 7/30/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
Southland greyhound racing has on tap for Wednesday 18 always exciting and entertaining races. Our picks this evening are concentrated on the different grades and classes of both young and upcoming greyhounds as well as some older and more experienced ones.
Race 7 - Grade M - 583 yard course - The key here is the (7) Kiowa Dot DJ who has been running hard since stepping on the track at Southland. He showed talent and promise in his schooling races winning one by eleven lengths and has a second and two thirds in his three official starts and the one to beat here. The (4) Lex McCain has also looked impressive in three schooling races with a win and two seconds. He has a mid to wide running style and has a strong rush to the turn, got to use him in this one. To complete the play, I'll use both the (1) PJ Americano and the (8) Well Kept.
Pick 7-4-1-8
Race 11 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - I'm going with the (3) Manhatin as the key in this one. He was off the track for three months and is back in shape and returning to form with each race he runs. With his big rush to the turn he should be in good position to challenge for the win. The (2) CRT Joe is going to be some very tough competition as he is going for his fourth straight win. I believe these two greyhounds will battle all the way to the wire. The (8) CBJ Twix has a ton of early speed and could find himself in front right out of the box. I'll also include the (1) Flying Riot who has two wins and two thirds in his last six races but needs to get mid to wide to have a decent shot.
Pick 3-2-8-1
Race 14 - Grade D - 583 yard course - Here we have the class of the race in the (1) Arkans Bd Brutus who also happens to like the inside. He has only drawn the one box two times in his young career of 21 races but in those contests he finished second and third. Let's see if the third time is the charm, I think it will be. Also a big threat will be the (9) AMF Sunny Honey who likes it wide and has 13 top four finishes in 20 career races. For those of you who play tri's and superfectas I'll use the (2) T's Spectraflame and the (7) Kiowa Andy Allen.
Pick 1-9-2-7
Race 15 - Grade TC - 703 yard course - Staying with the (2) Distant Days as the one to beat here. He likes the inside and should be vying for the lead right out the box. Being back in C grade should give him the edge in this one. The (5) Flying Euphrates will be a strong challenger due to his tremendous early speed and he should have plenty of running room early. The (1) Mahgrit is a double drop in grade but will need to avoid early trouble and get outside where she likes to run. The (8) WW's Luminous should get some consideration as he won at this distance last time out from the same eight box he has tonight.
Pick 2-5-1-8
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 6th race, a grade A contest over the 583 yard course and is the (8) Stilgar. He has nice early speed and is coming off a four length win last time out. I believe he will clear the first turn in good shape and I like his chances from there.
