Greyhound Preview: Southland for 7/7/2014

July 7th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

Monday's program at Southland features 18 exciting greyhound races including a couple of top grade races that caught my attention as good wagering opportunities. I have included those in my picks below along with a couple of other races that have the potential to pay out nicely. I think we all would like to put some cash in our pockets after a big holiday weekend so let's see if we can do just that. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 3 - Grade M - 583 yard course - I'm going with the (7) Vanzant in this one. He is a young greyhound with potential as in three schooling races he ran second each time, in his first official race last time out he ran second once again, beaten only by two lengths. He has a decent rush to the turn and I believe he wins this one at the wire. The (8) Rainbow Warrior and the (6) Kiowa Elm also will be in the play as both show good schooling races and I will use the (4) BD's Rana as she may get to the rail early and be the surprise of the race.

Pick 7-8-6-4

Race 7 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - The key here is the (2) Flying Titanium, the very talented and hard running greyhound who recently finished second in the 2014 Southland Derby Championship stakes contest. He has 18 wins already this season and the inside post should having him adding another win to the total.  The (4) Kiowa Oriole is also capable of getting the win and also made the Southland Derby finals and had a third place finish so these two should go paw to paw here. Finishing out the ticket, I will use the early speed (6) Volando Dilbert and the rail running (1) RC Abovetherest who is going for 3 wins in a row.

Pick 2-4-6-1

Race 15 - Grade B - 703 yard course - A tough field but I'm going with the (1) KR Amp Me Up as I believe he wins a close one at the wire. He likes the inside and is dropping in grade, his last win also came in B grade and he had the two box in that contest. The (8) KB's Hot Idea was the beaten favorite last time out but now is well positioned for his mid to wide running style and can't be overlooked here. To complete the tri and superfecta plays I will use the (7) Gracie Of Ruckus and the (5) Flying Soldier.

Pick 1-8-7-5

Race 18 - Grade TAA - 703 yard course - I am going with the (3) GS April as the key as she is going for her third win in her last four races over this distance. She has adjusted to the Southland track very well coming here from the Orange Park track and is trying to make it two wins in a row. The (6) Mega Archrival is no stranger to the 703 distance and should be the early leader in this one and   though he may fade some down the stretch I still will use him because of his early speed. The (8) Boc's Downburst is positioned well for his mid to wide running style and the (7) Blyzzud has three straight top three finishes.

Pick 3-6-8-7

The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 10th race, a grade B contest over the 583 yard course and is the (1) Future King. I like him because the two dog is a midtrack runner and the three dog likes it wide so there should be running room early for him on the inside. He does have a good rush and he is dropping in grade so well worth a play here.
