Greyhound Preview: Southland for 8/8/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
Welcome to another Friday evening of fun filled excitement with endless wagering opportunities at Southland. There are 18 exciting races on this card and I have picked out several that drew my interest and these races and picks are listed below. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Race 4 - Grade D - 660 yards - Last time out I had the (2) Crt Chris to get the win from the one box, he was bumped and finished fourth, despite that, I'm coming right back with him here as the one to beat. He likes the inside and the last two times he has had the two box, he has a win and a second place finish in them. The(6) PJ All Romance has good closing ability and with this being his third race over this distance, I think he runs a very good race and hits the board. The (3) TB's Sky Captain is a young but steadily improving greyhound who is 8 out of 9 in the money including a win and two seconds and who will be a threat here. For tri and superfecta plays I'll use the (5) Arkans Bd Skylar as she's the class and does have early speed though she's been fading as of late.
Pick 2-6-3-5
Race 6 - Grade B - 583 yards - I'm going with the (8) Arkans Bd Buck as the key in this one as he is coming off an impressive seven length win last time out. He has a mid to wide running style and is well posted here. The (6) Alone All Alone is dropping in class have been running in AA grade just a few races back and he also likes it outside so I'll use him in case he gets loose early. The (3) Kiowa Dandelions is a talented young pup who started his career with three straight wins and a second place effort before running into trouble the past two times. I look for him to the challenging for the early lead as he is quick out of the box. For tri and superfecta plays, I'll include the (7) Slatex Nixon as he has encountered trouble lately but is capable of a big run.
Pick 8-6-3-7
Race 11 - Grade AA - 583 yards - The key here is the (5) CBJ Old Glory as he is coming off two impressive races, finishing second to the future All-American Flying Titanium in his last outing and before that, a convincing six length win in SAA grade. He's running hard and I'm sticking with him. The (2) Western Road and the (6) Mega Vast will both provide tough completion as both have recent wins. Western Road can come from behind and Mega Vast has early speed so don't overlook them here. The (4) WW Blazin Spirit has also been running hard with two wins, a second and a third place finish in her last five races. She will be on my tri and superfecta plays.
Pick 5-2-6-4
Race 15 - Grade B - 660 yards - A very competitive field here but my pick is the (2) Boc's Snowstorm as the one to beat. This greyhound has been giving 100% as evidenced by three second and two third place finishes in his last five races. I'm looking for a big rush from him and a photo finish win. The(5) A Nun With A Gun will be a strong challenger, having good early speed which should help her find running room on the rail in which to make her move. The (8) Barts Goldngoose is well posted for his outside running style and the (1) Magic Sprint has won two of his last five races so I'll use both of them to complete the play.
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 17th race, a grade A contest over the 660 yard distance course and the pick is the (3) Commodore. He's run most of his races in AA grade and should have a good opportunity here as he likes the inside. Don't look for him to be among the frontrunners as he has a strong closing ability and will be flying down the stretch. I believe he avoids early trouble and finds running room on the rail to make his late move.
