Hanson: Six to watch on Pegasus World Cup undercard

With that kind of popularity expected, it makes sense to have a look at the card and take part in TwinSpires.com's $12K Prize Pool promotion on Saturday. Bet at least $250 on a minimum of six undercard races at Gulfstream (1-11) and be eligible for up to $500 of the $12,000 prize pool offered by TwinSpires.com.
For those that may prefer to reach the $250 minimum in the straight pools, I'll be taking a look at these win-place propositions on the undercard.
Race 4 - Slow starts and slow paces prevented Union Way (#11, 10-1) from earning more than minor checks in her first two outings. Adds blinkers for this, and perhaps shows more zip in a race that on paper is sorely lacking pace elements.
Race 6 - American Deluxe (#11, 10-1) was a credible second at long odds in his debut, but ran into all sorts of trouble second out. Half-brother to Travers (G1) winner V. E. Day stretches out a furlong and should continue to get better given a clean trip.
Race 7 - Brandy's Girl (#6, 10-1) probably found her January 4 comeback a useful tune-up after being away from the races for nearly five months. Aside from some unfortunate trouble in a stakes here last February, she's relished this course and is capable from on or slightly off the pace.
Race 9 - Power Alert and former Breeders' Cup winner Mongolian Saturday are going to take significant money, but Rainbow Heir (#1, 6-1) has done enough from limited turf attempts to suggest he can be in the discussion. Recovered from an eventful start to win a Gulfstream Park West stakes going away last time and enters fresh for trainer Jason Servis, who seemingly has the seven-year-old in peak form.
Race 10 - Arles (#7, 7-2) has run two bang-up races since her importation, bowing to Suffused by three parts of a length in the Glens Falls (G3) and then missing narrowly to the fine Japanese mare Nuovo Record in the Red Carpet H. (G3). Does have a case of seconditis (11-2-6-2), but will be the value in her rematch with Suffused here.
Race 11 - An excursion to Ireland last year didn't pan out too well for Charming Kitten (#6, 9-2), who won this race the last time it was contested in December 2015. It'll be a tall order to win off the bench at 1 1/2 miles, but has rarely run a bad one here and is obviously one of the classiest horses in the field.
