Wednesday Harness Preview for 1/15/2014

In contrast to their pacing counterparts, the trotters are often prone to breaking stride and therefore viewed as a genuine risky proposition among standardbred players. But the Wednesday card at Dover Downs, which typically highlights the trotting gait, could offer some genuine overlays.

In the opening race on the card, a non-winners of $9001 last six condition for trotters, take a shot on Go Go Red Marty (Corey Callahan). Last week in a similar class, Go Go Red Marty raced first over through much of the mile and still finished third in a good try. Although not blessed with stellar gate speed, Go Go Red Marty can be in good position early and possibly brush to command before the half or even down the backside and he will be tough to overtake in the lane.

Two races later in the third, give Jc Who Dini (Trace Tetrick) a genuine chance at redemption. One week earlier he broke stride at the outset as the 4-5 favorite and got back on gait belatedly and then rallied from well off the pace to finish fourth in an effort that was better than it looks on paper. Expect Jc Who Dini to stay flat this evening, make an early bid to gain command before the half and then edge away from his competition.

In the evening's feature, the $20,000 Open Handicap for the top trotters on the circuit, look for Enrico As (Allan Davis) to work out a decent trip and prevail at a decent price in the race that marks the seasonal debut of the talented Modern Family. Last week in the top trot, Enrico As raced first over into a fierce back half as Awsome Valley got command early, got a breather to the midway staion in 59.1 then sprinted the final half in 57 to keep Enrico As and the others at bay. With an honest tempo up front, Enrico As will be able to overtake the leaders in the Open at a decent price.

Then several races later in the 12th, a non-winners of $12,001 last six class for trotters, take a swing at Royal Malinda. Although the durable sort will start from post eight, Royal Malinda will be able to work out a second over or third over trip in this event one week after being parked the entire mile against the razor sharp I'm So Striking. Best of all, Royal Malinda will get overlooked on paper and should return at least 10-1 despite the modest drop in class.
