Harness Racing: Chasing Cash At Red Mile, Mohawk

Autumn is the Grand Circuit at The Red Mile and more of it covers the entire weekend. A Special extra edition of the Harness Preview surfaces for the Sunday, Oct. 10 Kentukcy Futurity stakes. Again, we merge the best to play amid features and in the never-ending TwinSpires H2W (horses-to-watch list) and continue a new feature, Mohawk Miles, where we indulge in longshot action.
MOHAWK MILES
Thursday / Oct. 7
Mohawk
Each week we highlight some probable longshots from Mohawk Park in this features section. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back while adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.
In Race 1, Frontier Cruise returns to this claiming/handicap level from a crowded field having made two moves at 11-1, which should have been 20-1 but was given half a chance.
In Race 2, Magic Maggie (Muscle Mass) finished third in a qualifier with a lot left for the real mile and could be the second half of a strong Daily Double.
INDIANA NATION
Thursday / Oct. 7
Hoosier
Hefty purses for state-bred divisions are on the line with six Indiana Sires Stakes fields. We cover them all but have chosen a few as features (see H2W for any other contenders).
2yo colt pace $69k
Big Law revolted a qualifying field on Sept. 25 and did not race as fast as he can. From out of it early there should be a challenge late from Iwannabewithyou, which will make for a sound exacta.
3yo filly trot $47k
Shirley Goodness is hot right now and although this is a competitive field from inside out her chances might be far better than her odds.
3yo colt trot $49k
The public may swarm to Ron Burke’s Brookview Bold but we’ll try to beat him with Breckenridge who has a better chance than the crowd measures. In the second split for the division we’re with almost everyone else with the Wrenns’ Swingforthefences.
THE INTERNATIONALS
Friday / Oct. 8
Red Mile
Week two of Grand Circuit action at The Red Mile continues with the International Stallion Stakes (INSS) and more through Oct. 10. We have selected specific INSS events with our usual spins.
2yo colt trot $75k
King Of The North returns from his Mohawk Millions loss to meet nothing [sic] and should easily put a state’s distance between himself and the six others, with Letsdoit S returning from a Bluegrass to take second.
2yo colt trot $76k
Our choice last week, finishing second, Keg Stand may pay a bit more from post 8 with a crowd focus on beaten-favorite World At War Deo starting six posts to his left.
2yo colt trot $76k
We were onto Global Pandemic before Ron Burke got him and sticking with the Cantab Hall colt has paid off with a pair of wins and tougher rolling, so here he may provide an upset of some capacity since there are other lures for win bettors.
Last week’s Periculum and Fast As The Wind could make a fine paying two- and threesome.
2yo colt trot $75k
Temporal Hanover is an instant bet-back Bluegrass member in this INSS. He took the overland route on the crimson surface at 6-1, finishing fourth and odds on him may be higher than that.
GRASSROOTS
Saturday / Oct. 9
Mohawk
Ontario Sires Stakes finals adorn the program. Here are some contenders you may consider for any wagers in the eight $60k events.

3yo filly pace—Cyclone Sister; well-supported last time.
2yo colt trot—Royal Champane; under-performed ready to over-perform.
2yo colt pace—Icey Shadow; prepped well for the final.
3yo filly trot—Stonebridge Strong; close at 15-1 in last.
2yo filly pace—Girl Scout Cookie; superfecta element at 20-1.
3yo colt trot—Tokyo Seelster; good season conclusion.
3yo colt pace—Cantstoplying; close in last at 3-1.
H2W Legend
Review our choices and confirm the wagers available at the prescribed track. H2W offers possible contenders researched from reviewing races. Horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track with the date of their race and the race number (R6 ). If a + is in front of a horse’s name, it appears on the list for the second time (horses are listed twice only if, at first, they fail to win. An “ae” signals also-eligible. Types of wagers to make are based on your judgment.
