 A Brief History of The Elitloppet

The Elitloppet (translated to The Elite Race) is one of the biggest races in standardbred horse racing, held annually at Solvalla Racetrack in Stockholm, Swedem the race regularly takes place in front of a crowd of over 50,000 and attracts the best standardbred horses from Europe and (sometimes around the world).

There are typically two qualifying rounds leading to a final.  The final this year will take place on Sunday May 31 as race 14 on the program.

The race has happened every year since 1962 and the host country leads the way with 22 owned winners, closely followed by France with 21.  Italy and Germany have won the race eight and five times respectively and the USA have sent three winners across, and Canada two winners.
