Harrington meets begins Monday

Just over two weeks after hosting its lucrative Governor's Day card, Harrington will kick off its summer-fall meet on Monday with another competitive overnight program.

Monday's opener is a non-winners of $5001 last four starts/optional $15,000 claiming event in which two of the best three horses drew the two inside spots.

Fancy Colt (Tony Morgan) draws the rail in his return to Delaware after spending much of the spring and summer at Pocono Downs. SB Mikes Hot Beach (Art Stafford, Jr.) will leave from post two following a pair of good efforts in the A Handicap at Ocean Downs. Black Aquila (Vince Copeland) also competed in the A Hcp at Ocean Downs last month and could split the top pair.

One race later on the card, a non-winners of $50,001 lifetime class, Final Gesture (Jim Morand) draws the rail in his return from Harrah's Philadelphia, while New York Town N (Pat Berry) returns following a first over try against much tougher at Yonkers Raceway and looms a serious threat from post two.

Several races later on the card in a non-winners of $7501 last four starts class for older pacers, Vapour N (Pat Berry) draws the rail after starts at Yonkers, Harrah's and the Meadowlands and looms the odds-on choice in this spot having beaten tougher twice at Harrah's.

Raritan Bay (Bret Brittingham) has won four of his last seven starts over the oval including a victory on Governors Day and draws post two. Sunshine Superman (Jonathan Roberts) won twice in four starts at Ocean Downs after winning two straight over this oval.

Then one race later on the card a compact field of five older pacers will go postward in the $15,000 Open Handicap, perhaps an early prep for one or two of these for the $200,000 Bobby Quillen Memorial here on Monday, September 19.

Special T Rocks (Jim Morand) won both of his starts in the A Hcp at Ocean Downs and gets assigned the outside slot. During the spring meet he was a regular in the Open, but posted his seasonal mark against conditioned rivals on June 13.

Just to his inside is Arque Hanover (Roberts) arrives off a third-place effort against tougher at Harrah's Ayer trouncing lesser there on July 10 in his first start for trainer Dylan Davis. He also defeated similar foes at Yonkers in mid-June.

Both Framed Art (Stafford) and Feel Like A Fool (Berry) raced here on Governors Day with varying results. Framed Art prevailed in 1:52.3 in a very good performance while Feel Like A Fool settled for second after a first over bid.

Speaking of the Quillen, several talented pacers that merit an invitation into the tracks signature event performed well at Yonkers on Saturday night.

The Real One (Pat Lachance) rallied along the inside to capture the $45,000 Open Handicap for a second straight week. A six-year-old Mach Three gelding also trained by Lachance, The Real One has won three of his last five starts over the oval and is peaking at the right time with the Quillen on the horizon.

Former Levy hero PH Supercam (Jason Bartlett) finished second following an extended first over bid, while 2016 Levy hero Bit Of A Legend N (Jordan Stratton) settled for fourth as the 1-2 choice after staying on the rail and being unable to find ample racing room in the lane.

Another recent down under product, Feel The Need (Eric Goodell) notched his second straight for trainer Chris Oakes when he captured the $35,000 Preferred in wire-to-wire fashion in 1:51. Levy regular Take It Back Terry (George Brennan) finished second in a good first over try for trainer Ron Burke.

Then in the finale of the 12-race card, Always At My Place (Brennan) benefited from a pocket trip behind Scott Rocks, angled out far turn and held safe Dream Out Loud N (Tyler Buter) to capture a non-winners of $25,000 last five starts class in 1:51. Always At My Place also appears to be peaking at the right time with the Quillen looming.

One night earlier at Hoosier Park, Wiggle It Jiggleit (Montrell Teague) benefited from a pocket trip behind Always B Miki and then overhauled that one in the lane to capture the $325,000 Dan Patch Invitational in 1:49.1.

Wiggle It Jiggleit has won 11 of 17 starts and banked over $1 million this year following his 2015 horse of the year campaign in which he won 22 of 26 outings and banked nearly $2.2 million. It has been a while since Wiggle It Jiggleit has raced at Harrington, but the Delaware-owned pacer is likely the first name on the invite list for the Quillen.
