Harrington offers trotting events
Most harness racing tracks find it difficult to fill races for trotters, but Harrington Raceway in Delaware will offer nine of them on a 12-race card on Wednesday and several of them offer potential genuine upset plays.
In the second race on the card, a non-winners of four races lifetime class for younger trotters, Cicada's Song will garner much of the attention for trainer-driver Carlo Poliseno following her victory last month in the $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund final for three-year-old filly trotters. But this will be her first start since then and her long term goal is assuredly the $100,000 DSBF final on Governor's Day in late July.
So the genuine value play in the second race on Wednesday appears to be Myclaimtovictory. The Tom Kirby trainee won two starts back as the 3-5 favorite then made a break last week while going postward as the 3-2 choice in this class. Following that disappointing effort and the presence of Cicada's Song, Myclaimtovictory will be a generous price on Wednesday and certainly merits a play for those willing to forgive his latest miscue.
Then one race later on the card back Steel Reserve with ample confidence. Last week the trotter raced first over and scored easily in 1:57.2 for trainer-driver Victor Kirby and may not actually be favored in this spot due to the presence of Harrah's Philadelphia invader Esmiko Joe.
Then two races later in the fifth, a non-winners of $8001 last four starts class for trotters, take a shot at railbound I'm So Striking. This durable mare trained and driven by Eddie Dennis competed in the Open Handicap in each of her two previous outings, but drops in class and gets the coveted rail and looms a serious threat in this spot and may not be the public choice.
Then several races later in the eighth, a non-winners of three races lifetime class for trotters, give Overnight Shipper (George Dennis) a solid chance to attain his third straight victory. A three-year-old Cr Commando gelding trained by Erin Kaufman, Overnight Shipper defeated non-winners of two company as the 7-5 and 6-5 choice, respectively, in each of his last two starts and makes the modest jump in class while seeking his third straight score in continued preparation for the next round of DSBF action over the Delaware half-mile oval.
