Harrington, Rosecroft kick off week

May 15th, 2016

Thoroughbred racing fans are already eager for this Saturday's Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, harness racing fans will look to jump start their week by playing Harrington on Monday and Rosecroft on Tuesday.

Monday's second race at Harrington is a non-winners of $80,001 lifetime event for pacers in which several horses look poised to succeed.

Bobby The Greek (Ross Wolfenden) has won his last two for owner-trainer-breeder Shawn Hanley and looks like he can make the modest jump in class. Autobiographical (Pat Berry) has raced well at this level since arriving from Rosecroft, while Ima Rebel (Tony Morgan) was the beaten favorite in this class last week and will seek redemption from post seven.

Two races later on the card in a similar class, railbound Bobbie's Power Play (Victor Kirby) will seek his second straight for trainer Bryan Truitt despite missing a week. Big Secret (Allan Davis) has been first once and second twice last three at this level and gets post two. Coaster (Montrell Teague) has won two of his last three starts in this class for trainer Buddy Bright, but has post seven here while Freehold invader New York Town N (Pat Berry) arrives after finishing second as the 2-1 fave in the Preferred after arriving from New Zealand.

Two races later the $15,000 Open Handicap looms a difficult puzzle to solve. Just A Jolt (Kirby) led throughout to win last week's edition from post three, but has the outside six hole Monday. Smart Rokker (Morgan) won at this level two starts back before finishing fifth as the choice last week. Both Special T Rocks (Allan Davis) and  Sparky Mark (Roberts) have been racing very well at this level all meet both will be factors again on Monday.

Then several races later in the ninth, a non-winners of $7501 last four starts class, Vapour N (Berry) drops into an ideal spot after finishing second in the Open II last week and should score as the even-money choice here. Cheyenne Jeffrey (Davis) has won two straight against much lesser but gets the rail here, while Contraband Hanover (Roberts) arrives from Harrah's Philadelphia where he has faced similar foes in recent weeks and should be formidable here.

Tuesday evening at Rosecroft, a full field of nine older pacers will go behind the gate in the featured $12,000 Open 2 Handicap just past the midway point of the card.

Hi Sir (Russell Foster) was second as the even-money favorite in this class after winning his prior three outings and certainly merits respect in this spot for his owner-trainer-driver. Time  Out I'm Tired (Berry) overhauled Hi Sir in this event last week and has won two of his last three for trainer David Rearic. Concert Artist (Chris Offutt) was third in this spot last week and won this class in April, while Breezeintheshade (Jared Moyer) has won two straight for owner-breeder-trainer Judith Welty and steps up off a sharp 1:50.4 score last week.

One race later in a tough non-winners of $8000 last five starts class for pacers, both Zoeez Boy Henry (Frank Milby) and Rockin Glory (Roberts) move up off wins against slightly lesser, while both McJaggersonthemove and Real Tough drop out of the Open 2 and both should be in contention late.

Then two races later in the 11th, give Rebel Soldier (Milby) another chance to score at this level for owner-breeder-trainer Steve Warrington of Sanabelle Island fame, while Caviart Tyler (Roberts) looms a serious contender from post seven for trainer Megan Roberts.
