Hoosier Park harness racing plays for July 14

Each week, Frank Cotolo employs money-management tactics to build wagers that focus on plump profits.

For the program on July 14 at Hoosier Park, we suggest some horses for selected plays that may fit in any type of wager. This week we chose to handle only the first five races of this card, which are the legs of the 50-cent Pick 5. This week’s choices (reported in post-position order) are based on our choices for individual wagers in the legs without adding “just-in-case” choices based upon the Pick-5 wager.

Race 1

The lightly raced Uncle Peter trotting gelding #1 Charlatan Hanover, qualified well after a layoff following two hard-luck miles.

Racing better than her odds at this level, #6 Miss G Cantab will be in the thick of this with a slow or a quick start.

Race 2

Twice on the board thriving at the fairs, #1 Jesses Doll will race faster here on the big track and has more experience on the track, period, than her threatening foes.

Joe Putnam’s #4 Atomic Blonde looks to have genuine speed but must prove it in her first pari-mutuel start.

With a better price to offer than Putnam’s speedster but while potentially as fast, #8 Brookview Cherie must be respected off of her second to Putnam’s “Blonde” while qualifying.

Race 3

Second to leg one’s Charlatan Hanover, #3 M-E Power House debuts fresh as an unproven loser against a field appearing with questionably rated conditions.

In just her third race of the season, #6 Bubbles N Suds has had two trips that suggest she has speed that will help when it matters most in a clean trip.

Race 4

When #4 My Panther stayed in this class after dropping into the conditioner-claimer for $6k he was burned by equipment failure as the public choice. He returns with double the tag price and most likely a better price with a better chance. Yes, a courageous Pick 5 single, but it could pay off in many other ways, too.

Race 5

As we explained before his June 30 race, #4 Livin’ The Blues all too closely follows the pattern of his sire, Manofmanymissions, by breaking or winning. We will take him back after his June 30 gallop because staying flat he could destroy this field at a price.

A break on June 30 also ruined the chances of #6 Captain Sonny Fox and today he could be the other anomaly to the mix, valuable in all wagers.
