Best Bets for the 2026 Blame Stakes

Read the full analysis here: Tipsheet: 2026 Blame Stakes

A fine field of eight will travel 1 1/8 miles on the Churchill Downs main strip in Saturday’s $300,000 Blame S. (G3), one of six graded tilts on the excellent Stephen Foster Preview Day card. Who is your best bet for the blame stakes among these top horses?

Blame Stakes Picks

  • #3 Hit Show
  • #2 Hall of Fame
  • #8 Vibe

Blame Stakes Wagers

  • $30 win #3 Hit Show
  • $1 superfecta 3 with 2,8 with 2,4,5,8 with all

Top Horses for the 2026 Blame Stakes

#3 HIT SHOW: Class of the cast and top pick was a decent fifth in an attempt at defending his crown in the Dubai World Cup (G1), most recently for Brad Cox. The gray son of Candy Ride has banked in excess of $9.4 million in his lifetime and was a big second in the Clark (G2) in his most recent run in Louisville, too. Irad will have the gray stalking the action to the top of the lane.

#2 HALL OF FAME: Upset contender was outrun to some extent in the deep Churchill Downs (G1) at seven-eighths in his 2026 debut and will improve in this contest. The Steve Asmussen pupil is a Grade 3 winner who ran well against some serious horses in 2025, and the son of Gun Runner is not without a chance on Saturday with Jose Ortiz on board.

#8 VIBE: Surging sort from the Pletcher barn is three-for-three after a subpar run and impressed when driving home decisively to upend allowance foes on the oval on the Derby undercard. The $3 million yearling buy gives the impression of a colt who will thrive in his first two-turn try in this spot, and his gate speed in a field lacking pace makes him a dangerous commodity, as well. Luis Saez will have the four-year-old forcing the tempo from the outset.

Pick 4 of the Week: Churchill Downs Saturday, May 30

A huge afternoon of racing will be hosted by Churchill Downs on Saturday as part of Stephen Foster Preview Day, with seven stakes races on the slate, including six of the graded variety. I’ll shoot for the middle Pick 4 of the day, which could be lucrative. With these key races this weekend, who are the top horses in your best bets?

  • $1 Pick 4: 3,10,11,12 with 7,8 with 4 with 1,3,4,5,8 ($40)

Best Bets for the 2026 Regret Stakes

Read the full analysis here: Exotics Plays for the 2026 Regret Stakes

An especially well-matched field of nine sophomore ladies will jaunt nine panels on the Churchill Downs lawn in Saturday’s $275,000 Regret (G3). In my opinion, the field lacks a standout, and it looks like a very appealing betting opportunity. Who's your best bet?

Regret Exotics

  • $4 exacta key box 6 with 1,5,9 ($24)
  • $4 trifecta 6,9 with 6,9 with 1,5 ($16)
  • 20-cent superfecta 6,9 with 1,5,6,9 with 1,5,6,9 with all ($14.40)

Top Horses for the 2026 Regret Stakes

#6 Dandona (6-1) is my tepid top pick in the heat for trainer Saffie Joseph. The seven-figure son of Tiz the Law looked the part in her Florida Oaks (G3) triumph at Tampa Bay Downs two back, prior to finishing unplaced in the recent Edgewood (G3) on the course most recently, but I expect her to improve on Saturday. The bay has displayed a strong turn of foot on the sod in her three previous grassy attempts, and while the pace of the race doesn’t figure to be a wicked one, she should have an honest tempo with which to rally into, nonetheless. Irad inherits the ride.

#9 Tam Tam (5-2) has improved her Brisnet Speed rating in each of her three runs on the sod, and she just missed behind a fine filly in her local bow last time out. The Phil Bauer pupil is a head shy of being unbeaten since moving to the lawn, and the expensive Medaglia d’Oro filly has excellent early foot in a field lacking an abundance of pace. The Kentucky-bred bay will always be in striking range with Junior Alvarado in the silks once again.

#5 Faithful Departed (8-1) could fly under the radar in the affair for trainer Grant Forster, but the Yoshida filly has improved her Brisnet Speed rating in every lifetime start to date, and she can’t be ignored as a prime exotics value piece in the contest. The ever-improving stakes-placed bay was a smart allowance heroine on the course while facing her elders in her latest endeavor and will not need a big move forward to challenge this cast late with Jose Ortiz on board.

#1 Indigo Woods (4-1), the stakes-winning Blue Point filly, has a big closing punch; she gets a nice draw on the fence to match her running style, and she also gets a rider upgrade to top pilot Tyler Gaffalione. Irish-bred bay will save ground and make one run in the lane.

Playing the $5 All-Stakes Pick 3 at Woodbine on Saturday

Best Bets for the 2026 Arlington Stakes

Read the full analysis here: Betting With, and Against, Lagynos in the Arlington Stakes

A talented field of 11 will go postward in the $275,000 Arlington (G3) at Churchill Downs on Saturday. The finale on a huge day of racing will be contested at 1 1/16 miles on the sod, and the one to beat is the surging #3 Lagynos (5-2) for conditioner Steve Asmussen. By Kantharos, the five-year-old has always been a good performer but has elevated his game over the past 12 months. However, if you're not convinced here are some ways to adjust your best bets with, and against, Lagynos.

Lagynos – With

  • $1 trifecta 3 with 5,7,8 with all ($27)
  • 50-cent superfecta key 3 with 5,7,8 with 5,7,8 with all ($24)

Lagynos – Against

  • $2 trifecta 5,7,8 with 1,5,7,8 with 1,5,7,8 ($36)
  • 10-cent superfecta 5,7,8 with 1,5,7,8 with 1,5,7,8 with all ($14.40)

Top Horses for the Arlington Stakes

#5 Giocoso (20-1) bagged a Grade 3 contest on this surface to close out his sophomore season and will be making his second run of 2026. Keith Desormeaux's pupil is a Grade 2 winner on the green who has excelled since focusing solely on grass races, and while his seasonal bow left something to be desired, the Not This Time colt has ample room to move forward second time back at a big number. Luis Saez will take the reins.

#7 Mercante (8-1) was outrun late behind an impressive winner in the Turf Classic (G1) on Kentucky Derby Day and could be rounding up to a peak run third time off the layoff. The Gun Runner gelding has won or placed in four of his five career efforts on the course and could sit a very good trip here just off the pacesetter, which will give him first run on the later closing types at the top of the lane. Regular rider Joseph Ramos will be in the silks.

#6 Minaret Station (15-1) was a length behind the favorite in his first run of 2026 last time out and goes for a conditioner who is pushing a lot of the right buttons at the current meeting. The homebred son of Instilled Regard captured the American Derby on the surface in June to prove that he likes the strip, and the late runner should get a solid early tempo to rally into in the closing stages of the event, with Christian Torres signed on.
