Horse Racing Tournament Weekend Recap
The highlights from last week in TwinSpires Tournaments included the $1,000 King’s Plate Contest at Woodbine on Saturday, the $600 SSBC Qualifier at Saratoga on Sunday, and the $140 Bet and Set King of the Turf Qualifier at Saratoga on Sunday.
The King’s Plate Contest featured 71 total entries with 26 entries on TwinSpires.
This weekend's horse racing tournaments' big winners
TwinSpires’ players Edward Deicke and Tyler Hoffman finished 2nd and 3rd in the contest! Deicke won a BCBC seat and Hoffman won an NHC seat.
The Sunday SSBC Qualifier had 72 entries and gave away 6 SSBC seats! Tony Zhou scored huge with both of his entries finishing 1st and 2nd. To match that feat, Tim Langlois used both of his entries to finish 3rd and 4th! They each won two SSBC seats.
The final two SSBC seats went to Michael Domabyl and Todd Lane. George Barrett finished 7th to get a nice consolation prize of $600.
The Sunday Bet and Set King of the Turf Qualifier had 39 entries and gave away one seat to the $2,500 Kentucky Downs King of the Turf Handicapping Challenge. The top two finishers converted their $40 bankroll into just over $129.
Christopher Famiglietti just edged out Philip Fairbanks by $0.24 to win the King of the Turf seat. But Fairbanks still got a nice consolation of $1,400 to help ease the pain of a close loss!

What are the rules of horse racing tournaments?

1. Bankroll Formats
Mythical Bankroll: Players use a simulated, fictitious budget to place bets. No real money is risked beyond the initial tournament entry fee.
Live Bankroll: Players use real money to establish their tournament bankroll. Real wagers are placed on the tracks, and players keep their remaining bankroll alongside any winnings.
2. Race Selection Formats
Mandatory Races: The tournament organizers select specific races, and every participant must place a wager on those exact events.
Optional Races: Players are given a roster of eligible races and have the freedom to choose which ones to play to meet the required total race count.
3. Wager Restrictions
Most contests limit participants to specific, standard bet types (typically Win, Place, or Show) to ensure fair competition.
4. Selection Deadlines
Pick and Pray Contests: All selections for every race in the tournament must be locked in before the post time of the first race of the day. No changes can be made once the tournament begins.
