How to bet the 2025 Bing Crosby Stakes

July 25th, 2025

An accomplished and talented field of nine will go six furlongs on the Del Mar dirt in Saturday’s $400,000 Bing Crosby Stakes (G1). A total of six contenders in the field are graded stakes winners in what is an excellent renewal of the contest.

Bing Crosby Wagers

  • $12 win and place #2 Dr. Venkman ($24)
  • $1 superfecta 2 with 1,5 with 1,3,5,6 with 1,3,5,6 ($12)
  • 50-cent superfecta 1,5 with 2 with 1,3,5,6 with 1,3,5,6 ($6)

I’m not sure that the Mark Glatt-trained #2 Dr. Venkman is at his best at six panels, but the Ghostzapper gelding has a lot of class, and he has also run big in each of his four tries at the coastal venue in advance of this dash. The five-year-old dons a three-for-four local mark with his lone Del Mar setback coming when a solid fourth in the Pacific Classic (G1) in August. Kentucky-bred bay has checked in second in both the Triple Bend S. (G3) and Kelly’s Landing S. (G3) from two starts this campaign, and he could be poised for a peak showing while making his third run off the shelf. Regular pilot Antonio Fresu will ride and have the top pick in striking range throughout the heat.

Grade 2 hero, #5 World Record, is the speed of the speed and looms as the one to catch for conditioner Rodolphe Brisset. By Gun Runner, the $410,000 yearling purchase was run down late in the Aristides S. (G3) beneath the Twin Spires last out and comes in fresh for his third run of the season. The bay doesn’t need the early edge to run well, but I envision Flavien Prat sending him hard from the break and controlling things to the top of the lane.

Carter S. (G2) victor #1 Crazy Mason has evolved into a quality one-run closer and gets a cozy rail draw for his first run on the surface. The Gregory Sacco pupil had won three straight prior to finishing third behind two of the country's top sprinters at Saratoga in June, and he deserves a look against this cast. The Coal Front colt has registered massive Brisnet Late Pace figures in each of his four efforts in 2025, and he lands in a race with a healthy amount of speed in it. He drilled a recent bullet four-panel workout and will be moving fast in the stretch with Christopher Elliot aboard.

Two-time Grade 3 star #6 Roll On Big Joe and 2023 Malibu S. (G1) runner-up #3 Hejazi also merit inclusion in the verticals.
