How to bet the 2025 Galway Stakes

August 6th, 2025

A huge field of sophomore fillies will speed 5 1/2 panels over the Saratoga turf in Thursday’s $150,000 Galway S. In a field full of legitimate win contenders, I feel compelled to attempt to find value with my wagers.

Galway Wagers

#3 Make Haste (12-1), one of two in the group for trainer Miguel Clement, dueled on the front end before giving way in the Coronation Cup S. (G3) over a ‘good’ surface last time, and will improve in a big way in this one. By Blue Point, the filly was an impressive allowance heroine at Gulfstream Park two back and figures to receive a better voyage tucked in behind the early pace on this occasion. She retains Flavien Prat, and her number is much better than the 9-5 odds she went postward at in her latest endeavor, as well.

Conditioner George Weaver has a quartet of sophomores in the main body of the field, including sharp maiden heroine #5 Silsbee (6-1). By Vekoma, the $330,000 purchase broke her maiden like a good thing in her grassy debut last time and appears to have a very bright future. The Empire State-bred lass obviously takes a major class hike, but she has Irad in the silks, and this barn has really done some excellent work in the turf sprint ranks over the past few seasons, too. I expect the chestnut to be well placed turning for home.

In a heat with an abundance of pace like this one, being a late runner with an outside post slot could be advantageous with the potential for the speed to back up in the lane, so I will include each of the trio of ladies that are drawn widest of all.

#10 Laurice (15-1) rallied to be third in the Coronation Cup most recently for Weaver. The Bolt d’Oro miss broke her maiden on the course as a juvenile and seems to do her best work at The Spa. Junior Alvarado will guide the Kentucky-bred.

Two-time stakes victress #11 Love Cervere (7-2), the second from the Clement shedrow, was last seen dominating the Alywow S. on the Woodbine green and looms large with any improvement off of that performance. She will arrive on the scene late beneath Joel Rosario.

Grade 3 vixen #12 Abientot (8-1) is a deep-closing type who garnered a third in the Coronation Cup in her second local appearance for Mark Casse. The Not This Time filly will be near the back of the pack early before being asked for her best under Dylan Davis.
