How to bet the 2025 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Sprint Stakes

August 29th, 2025

A total of 10 two-year-olds will travel six panels over the green in Sunday’s lucrative, $1 million Kentucky Downs Juvenile Sprint S. A trio of the contenders are sired by fine turf influence Twirling Candy in the well-matched field, and I will base my wagers around the three of them. #7 Longshoreman toyed with a Churchill Downs maiden group in his second lifetime outing and gets the slight nod in the cast for Wesley Ward.

Juvenile Sprint Wagers

Longshoreman was a $260,000 yearling purchase and has some fine runners on the female side of his pedigree, as he appears to be one of them. The February foal did improve from his debut to his maiden win, and the bay colt has the early foot to be involved from the opening bell in the dash, too. He has posted a trio of morning moves on the lawn leading up to this and will have Walter Rodriguez in the silks.

#2 Johnny’s Red Storm drew off to a facile tally at Saratoga in his unveiling and will step up in class on this occasion. One of two in the field for trainer George Weaver, the dark bay colt was well backed in his first run as he was no secret to the bettors, and the Kentucky-bred has posted a pair of smart morning moves on the lawn in the interim, as well. Frankie Dettori inherits the ride.

#5 Twilight Delight did nothing wrong in a wire-to-wire coup at Ellis Park on debut while recording a solid time in a big field. The February foal flashed good gate speed and never tired in that tilt at a nice price, and he will be of good value once again in this spot. Daniel Leitch's pupil is out of a stakes-winning mare and might get overlooked some in the wagering with Gabe Saez staying in the silks. He will be prominent from the break.

European import #6 Azizam has to get a look in this spot in his first run for Weaver. The Havana Grey colt was a fine third in the 23-horse Windsor Castle S. two back at Royal Ascot and has the speed to be in the mix from the outset in this tilt. The gray colt has posted two morning drills in the U.S. and will have Florent Geroux on board.
