How to bet the Ballston Spa Stakes

A field of six, with one being a main-track only entrant, will run 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf at Saratoga in Saturday’s $200,000 Ballston Spa (G2).

The early tempo is expected to be slow, with #3 North Broadway taking the edge over #6 Starship Jubilee in the early stages.

Ballston Spa Contenders

#1 CALL ME LOVE (5-1) -- Italian import cuts back in distance for her third start of the season following an unplaced run in the New York (G2). Clement charge was a fine second in her U. S. debut at the trip, and she rates a chance if she runs back to that performance on Saturday. Chestnut will save ground throughout from the rail beneath Rosario.

#2 BRAMBLE QUEEN (30-1) -- Outsider from the Dini shedrow has defeated allowance foes in two straight but faces a much tougher task in the Ballston Spa. Silent Name mare will need a career-best effort to challenge for a placing in a fine field.

#3 NORTH BROADWAY (30-1) -- $750,000 daughter of Quality Road stopped early when facing first-level allowance foes at Monmouth most recently for Chad Brown. Lightly-raced dark bay has obvious room for improvement in her third off the break, but this is a very ambitious spot and I can’t endorse her.

#4 ANOTHER BROAD (6-5) -- Pletcher pupil is a main track-only contender who would be especially tough to beat if the race comes off the green. Maryland-bred five-year-old exits a third-place result in the Fleur de Lis (G2) at Churchill Downs, and she will be tough to deny while making her Saratoga debut.

#5 SISTERCHARLIE (2-5) -- Sensational 6-year-old will make her seasonal debut for Brown. Champion Irish-bred is a dual Grade 1 heroine from a pair of tries on this course, and she ran one of her best lifetime races off of a similar layoff in 2019. Explosive bay will endure clear sailing throughout in the small field under Johnny V.

#6 STARSHIP JUBILEE (2-1) -- Main danger to the morning-line choice is 3-for-3 this season and has arguably never been better for Attard. Indy Wind mare has the versatility to win from up close or off the pace, and she holds a tactical edge over her foes in the Ballston Spa. Florida-bred was a close third in the race in 2019, and she will be the one to catch turning for home under Castellano.
