How to bet the Belmont turf stakes on Saturday

June 5th, 2020

Belmont Park will play host to a quartet of graded stakes races as part of a huge Saturday card. I will focus on the grassy features in this piece, while tabbing a few price contenders for conditioner Chad Brown.

Fort Marcy (G2)

A fantastic rendition of this race attracted nine with four hailing from the mighty Brown barn. #9 Tribhuvan (12-1) put in an excellent effort at Gulfstream Park in his U.S. debut and seems poised to move forward on Saturday. Toronado colt made up good ground in the stretch in South Florida while traveling wide throughout, and this outfit is deadly second time after importing from abroad. Jose Ortiz riding aids the cause.

Todd Pletcher’s #8 Social Paranoia (9-2) was a superb victor of the Appleton (G3) two back, prior to registering a third-place result behind a loose-on-the-lead winner in the Sunshine Forever S. 4-year-old Street Boss colt is quite versatile, and he could sit a dream trip from second early on while getting first run on the bevy of closers in the cast turning for home.

Wager:

  • $10 Win and Place: #9 Tribhuvan ($20)
  • $10 Exacta Box: 8-9 ($20)

Intercontinental (G3)

Fillies and mares will travel 7 panels on the outer course with a dozen signed on. Juddmonte Farms’ homebred #1 Viadera (6-1) will make her 2020 and U. S. debut in the race, and I have a hunch that she might be ready to fire a big shot under Rosario. Bated Breath filly receives Lasix for the initial time, and the 4-year-old shows plenty of swift morning drills to hint that she has some speed.

Defending champ #12 Significant Form (5-2), also from the vast Brown shedrow, loves the course and this trip seems like an ideal fit for her running style. Creative Cause mare has plenty of back class and captured this event in 2019 off a similar type of layoff. John Velazquez will guide the tactical 5-year-old.

Wager:

  • $20 Win: #1 Viadera ($20)
  • $1 Trifecta: 1,12 with 1,12 with all ($20)
