Nine fillies and mares will travel one-mile on the Churchill Downs dirt in Saturday’s $100,000 Chilukki (G3).
Chilukki Contenders
#1 NEW ROO -- Chestnut daughter of Dominus comes in off of an unplaced showing on the course last time out. Drury charge has run well at Churchill in the past, but her recent form makes it hard to back her with confidence in a deep field.
#2 FINITE -- Two-time Grade 2 heroine just missed following a big late run in the Raven Run (G2) at Keeneland most recently. Sophomore filly is perfect from a pair of local engagements, and she could also be sitting on a peak outing making her third run off the bench as well. Santana will be in the silks.
#3 GRAND CRU CLASSE -- Mott pupil is 3-for-4 lifetime with her lone blemish coming in a close third in the Raven Run last out. Stakes-winning daughter of Bernardini was a facile allowance winner in her lone try at the distance, and she comes in with two solid local moves with Gaffalione taking the reins.
#4 WHOA NELLIE -- Top pick has won or placed in nine of 10 local tries to date for Larry Jones. Stakes vixen was a neck second in the Bayakoa (G3) most recently, and she has run well locally while sporting a 4-2-1-1 local mark. Versatile daughter of Orb can win from on or off the pace as well. #5 GOLD STANDARD -- Medaglia d’Oro 4-year-old ran down a clear one en route to a smart allowance score on the surface in her latest endeavor. Kentucky-bred dark bay has earned two prior placings at the Grade 3 level, and some improvement on Saturday will have the lass in the mix late beneath Geroux.
#6 RISKY MANDATE -- Speedy sort looked the part in a fine allowance tally at Keeneland most recently. Strong Mandate filly was a powerful maiden winner on the oval in her debut run, and she appears to be sitting on a big one as the potential one to catch on Saturday. Miguel Mena will be up.
#7 CRAZY SEXY MUNNY -- Munnings chestnut is 2-for-4 beneath the Twin Spires including an easy allowance win here two back. Bill Morey trainee, who was claimed for $6,250 in January, has been first or second in eight of her last 10 outings, and she merits top-three respect at a fair price.
#8 UNIQUE FACTOR -- Dark bay daughter of The Factor stretches out following a string of sprint races for Peter Miller. The 4-year-old had a solid prep for this when a closing stakes second going six panels at Keeneland most recently, and she shows a bullet five furlongs in the interim too. Corey Lanerie rides the contender.
#9 SANENUS -- Group 1 heroine makes her third try on U.S. soil for McCarthy. Scat Daddy 4-year-old was a solid third in an allowance race at Churchill downs last time out, but she will need further improvement to take this field down from the outside post. Rafael Bejarano will be in the controls.
